There's a hysteria in America. A hysteria about what's become known as "the traditional family" and the desperate urgency to "save" it. And this rallying cry is not just coming from right wing conservatives and religious groups in the Red States (although, they're doing their share of tub-thumping.) The media (advertisers) and the government also have a vested interest in perpetuating the traditional concept of family: mother, father, two kids, dog and picket fence. But this hysteria is ignoring a key fact...

The "traditional family" is bullshit.

The traditional family structure may be for some, but it isn't for everyone. Shouldn't we stop trying to jam square pegs into round holes?


A lot of topics in the politics form revolved around a "Traditional Family". "What's healthy for a family" I got questioning myself what is a traditional family. And the from the research I have gathered, it DOESNT EXIST.

A Traditional 'Nuclear' family, you know a mom, dad, a somewhere between 1-3 kids is a rare thing now a days. A staggering amount of "Families" are co-habitial (in other words, they're swingers, and raise children at the same time) a lot of children live in a single parent home and some even don't even live with either parents. Divorce is on the rise. More than 50 percent of marriages end in seperation. Times are changing and so are familys as they have through out history.

Through out history the term "Family" has had many different meanings. Marriage has been pre-determined to please the parent's and grandparents. Some husbands have had dozens and dozens of wives with lots and lots of children. And these family's during the time were considered normal.

Then there are Gay Families. Studies have been done and suggest that Gay family wanting children, are usually older and more committed to provide for their children. It's sad to blame one group of people for the downfall or destruction for a traditional family. Even though a family with a male and female partners are more prone to co-habition, cheating, spousal abuse and divorce, According to studies.

There isn't one type of family that is more prones to success than the others

So to label what a family should be soley on what YOU believe is traditional and healthy is pretty fucking ignorant. In other words it's bullshit
