What's a Traditional Family

There's a hysteria in America. A hysteria about what's become known as "the traditional family" and the desperate urgency to "save" it. And this rallying cry is not just coming from right wing conservatives and religious groups in the Red States (although, they're doing their share of tub-thumping.) The media (advertisers) and the government also have a vested interest in perpetuating the traditional concept of family: mother, father, two kids, dog and picket fence. But this hysteria is ignoring a key fact...

The "traditional family" is bullshit.

The traditional family structure may be for some, but it isn't for everyone. Shouldn't we stop trying to jam square pegs into round holes?


A lot of topics in the politics form revolved around a "Traditional Family". "What's healthy for a family" I got questioning myself what is a traditional family. And the from the research I have gathered, it DOESNT EXIST.

A Traditional 'Nuclear' family, you know a mom, dad, a somewhere between 1-3 kids is a rare thing now a days. A staggering amount of "Families" are co-habitial (in other words, they're swingers, and raise children at the same time) a lot of children live in a single parent home and some even don't even live with either parents. Divorce is on the rise. More than 50 percent of marriages end in seperation. Times are changing and so are familys as they have through out history.

Through out history the term "Family" has had many different meanings. Marriage has been pre-determined to please the parent's and grandparents. Some husbands have had dozens and dozens of wives with lots and lots of children. And these family's during the time were considered normal.

Then there are Gay Families. Studies have been done and suggest that Gay family wanting children, are usually older and more committed to provide for their children. It's sad to blame one group of people for the downfall or destruction for a traditional family. Even though a family with a male and female partners are more prone to co-habition, cheating, spousal abuse and divorce, According to studies.

There isn't one type of family that is more prones to success than the others

So to label what a family should be soley on what YOU believe is traditional and healthy is pretty fucking ignorant. In other words it's bullshit

Wow, I agree. The whole idea of the "Perfect family" is bullshit. A family that appears nice on the outside, on the inside they are probably molesting thier kids and beating the wife. In my opinion, it is somewhat laughable that people even care about this crap. It's not your family, so how the hell are you going to change it? Work on your own family and stop worrying about others. Stop trying to control other people's lives.

On the gay family issue, I just have to say THANK THE JESUS AND THE BUDDHA that I wasnt adopted by gays b/c #1, they would probhably turn you gay and #2, boy would you get made fun of in school..... "hey look it's Ben, he has 2 daddies!!! ROFL!!!" Boy that would suck.

Same with the idea of "sanctity of marriage". If there remains any vestige of sanctity of marriage through divorce, abuse and adultery than it is between two consenting and loving adults. What a stupid, archaic idea.

The liberal media,has made you cynical and pessimistic,there are more 'traditional' families,than what the liberal media has lead you to believe. Most certainly,the traditional family,is under constant attack from the liberal media and secular humanists on the Left,as well as attacks from the Left,towards family's of Faith. Radical gay activists,are at war with traditional families,and as a part of their 'battle-plan',have targetted those children of Faith at school,trying their best,to introduce confusion and doubt,into those children and usurp parental authority and perogatives.

When I was growing up,there were alot more,normal and traditional families,but with the onset of modern liberalism,those families have been under contant attack from the amoral Left. Maybe you're not old enough,to really understand the issue..I have almost 5 decades of life experience to draw upon,and the history to go along with it.

I will continue to fight for the 'traditional' family,because it's the building block,of a good and successful society..the Left,builds their house on a foundation of sand..we on the Right,build our houses on a foundation of rock..it's just that simple.

It isn't that simple, that's what I meant, regarding your post.

The traditional family is what exactly? That's what i'd like to know? Surely a traditional family would be a family of hard working, law abiding people? So by smoking weed, Torog, you are breaking the law and therefore ruining the traditional family and society is going to be destroyed and everyone's going to die and hell-fire and brimstone and evil gays and lesbians everywhere and blah blah blah

Torog, you say that families decades ago were much different now. This is my point exactly. And it isnt due to Democrats and Liberals. Its due to how things are changing around the world. How much more demanding life is now. A lifestyle of a family will always be a ever changing. It may not be what you think is healthy, but it doesnt mean its going to cripple America. People just have to adjust.
