DENVER â?? Colorado's chief marijuana enforcement agent is stepping down.

Matt Cook said Friday he's retiring at the end of the month. Cook is senior director of enforcement for the Department of Revenue. The job includes the division of medical marijuana, which oversees dispensaries and growing operations.

Cook says he plans to return to consulting, especially in the field of medical marijuana. Cook presided over the creation of the nation's most exhaustive marijuana business regulations, some of which take effect this summer.

The director of enforcement also oversees gaming, car dealers and other regulated industries. Cook's replacement will be chosen by the head of the Department of Revenue, Roxy Huber.
