So I'm new to this - not to gardening, been doing that for 20 years - but new to growing the kind. Seems like many folks posting are having trouble growing the plants. I have the opposite problem. My friend gave me some seeds and just for fun I sowed them, on April 11th, in a raised bed where I also grow tomatoes, beans, carrots, peppers, etc. Well they came up, very large, green, VIGOROUS plants - and some of them are now almost 6' tall. I sowed near a fence so neighbors couldn't see them but they're about to overgrow the top of the fence and be VERY visible.

Currently I'm thinking about topping them, rooting the cuttings, and putting those indoors under 12/12 to sex them - I see no point in growing a 16' male plant, for instance.

But once I top them, what's the right way to stop them from getting so tall that my neighbor will have no choice but to comment? He's a cool guy, would never hassle anyone, but he has a teenage kid and I don't want to put him in an uncomfortable position.

Been thinking about tying them down, using poultry netting attached to the fence to make a sort of 'roof' - anyone else have any good ideas for this situation? Any comments or advice are appreciated.
