Out of space! What are my options?

    Hello everyone

This is my first post so lets hope all goes well

Let me start by saying what an excellent forum on this topic, its being an excellent help to me already on my first grow attempt.

So like the thread topic states, i think im out of room in my tent, or maybe soon will be. Im growing 6 plants in a 1.2 x 1.2 x 2 mtr tent, the plant have just been put into flowering this week after a 5 week veg. The mistake I made was in letting them grow so big but thats because i got my veg/flowering times wrong as i learned last night.

Do the plants grow much more after they are put to flowering? One of the plants is very tall, can i cut some off the top of this one? and what about light, does it have to penitrate the whole way down along the plant or is it ok for there to be less light getting down to the mid to bottom part of the plant? Im using a 600w HPS for this grow with digital ballast

I have 2 pics here to see what you think

    Thanks in advance!!

Hi Mrsinn and welcome to the forum. Your babies are looking pretty good... a little tall because of a bit of stretching that you could minimize next time in veg with the lights a bit closer I think, but lets get you through this one for now.

The tall plant, instead of cutting at this point and causing stress, I would recommend tying down the top of it. Actually bend it over and tie it to something and get it to about the same height as the rest of your plants plus about 40%. That is how much they are going to grow in flowering... for the first 2-3 weeks they will grow another 40% on average and then will concentrate on bud production.

Your goal now should be to create what is called a sea of green... or a pretty flat and even canopy of the tops that you can adjust your light to be at the optimum distance from. The thickness of this canopy (because you have so many plants in there) will keep a lot of light from penetrating and the lower portions of the plants will not produce as much because of this, but don't worry so much about that now... just get that canopy evened out.. get the light optimized on it, and you will be very happy with the result.

Be sure to get some breeze going in there too.. you don't want to get mold or mildew problems under the canopy because air cant flow in there. I would suggest 2 fans... one blowing underneath and one at the top to exercise the plants and keep the buds fresh.

Thanks for your help Emilya but could you explain what you mean when you talk about a canopy?

yes, the canopy is like a top view of your plants as viewed by your light. The more level and even this very top layer can be made, the closer and more efficient you can get your light to it. Having one stick up very tall in that mess ruins this idea since the light has to be adjusted not to burn this tall one. In the jungle or forest there is an upper canopy such as this that the trees form where very little light gets to the ground. Much life lives up in that upper canopy and it is there where the trees get all their light from the sun and how they can survive in such close proximity to each other. You have created something very similar, a canopy of plants instead of trees. This upper surface that faces the light is where its all going to happen... just even it out the best you can and "train" that tall one to fall into the program. Do a search on here for SOG or Sea of Green and you will see others who do exactly as you have done here.
