Old bag of weed / Mold question

I'm sorry, I really am not entirely familiar with this site so forgive me if I come off as a n00b.

Basically, a friend stopped smoking weed a while ago, and gave me a bag of some dank that's been sitting on a shelf in his bedroom for what he said a year, maybe. I'm not one to turn down a big, free bag of weed.

I am a very paranoid person, so I got to thinking and searching the internet to make sure it was "safe" to smoke. From what I gathered, it's fine but I should look out for possible mold. Being a hypochondriac, I've spent quite some time analyzing the weed and checking for potential mold.

I've been picking at it all week and finally decided to start asking the "how do you know if your weed is moldy" question, and the only answers I've gotten are either "DONT SMOKE IT YOU'LL DIE" or "Duuude, I smoked some moldy shit and it was great" and of course the typical "Fire burns mold, so it's fine" responses. Eff that. I still don't feel good smoking it, but I've got some money stuff going on so I want to continue looking into it.

Today I was talking to my friend's boyfriend, and he asked me to describe the weed to him. I said it was really really dry, seemed kind of brick-like, light and dark greens, pretty typical - looks like reggie. He said that it sounds fine, and that if it was moldy it wouldn't be as dry as I described it to be. His girlfriend took some of it, smelled it and said it smelled fine - then smoked a bowl of it and said it just tasted like weed. I took a hit, and it did taste okay - but before I smoke any more I want to know what you guys think?

Does it have to be moist for it to be moldy? Do you think a potentially year old sack of bud would just start growing mold? I'm so paranoid.. don't tell me to smoke it anyway if you think it's moldy, I already hack up enough crap. I just want to be SURE it's not moldy.

Smoke away pilgrem ifin it be cured right and set on his/her shelf in a dry area without moisture its dry and probably totaly cured now so smoke away. Ifin yual want a little moisture back at it then add an orange peel to it for a day or so once gain happy smokin pilgrem.

It does not have to be dry to be mouldy. It could of had mould and then been dried out on the shelf for a year. Likely hood of this is very remote.
Look for dry mould on the buds. It would be a power of a green gray color. If a friend looked at it and said it was fine then it is fine.

If you want some moister back then a carrot slice or two will bring it back quick. Just be sure to slice the carrot and then dru it off with a paper towl to remove excess moist from the cut carrot. You now how moister bleeds out when cut just alittle dry and it's good to go.

But don't leave the carrots in too long...they'll get moldy.

Were this a great ammount and worth the risk, I'd say to rehydrate it and see (under a strong magnigying glass or cheap pocket microscope) if anything starts growing or smells off. Otherwise, it's a big risk for a bonghit or two.
Best not to share it or give it to another without warning 'em first.
On the up side...if it has any seeds, they should still be viable.
