Am I doing it right so far?

Hi hope you can let me know if im doing this right so far, I have 5 plants that are 2 weeks from seed and they look ok (I think) however I would just like to let you know what I have done so far and you can tell me if im doing it right? this is also my first time

I have the young plants in 11 litre pots (square wilma pots)

The medium is canna coco natural

They have not been given any nutes at all as of yet (learnt that the hard way)

I water every 3 or 4 days with tap water with a ph of 7.2 - 7.4 adjusted down to 5.8 with ph down and using a ph pen for testing ph levels

I add 2.5ml root juice to every 1 litre water (before adjusting the ph)

The plants are under 1 x 300w cfl (veg light)

    space is 1m x 1m x 2m (grow tent)

I have a fan blowing fresh air into the tent

I have a filter and extractor fan setup but currently not using as no need yet, will be used when the 600w hps is used

the reflector is a enclosed reflector with a glass pane and is attached to the filter and extractor (cool tube)

I dont have any pics as of yet but will try and get some done later, but in the mean time I would like to know if I am doing it right so far

any tips and advice is much appriciated

    thanks for your time

Thanks DP for that link. The author seemed to have a favor of coco over soil though.

bbunlock - 11 litre pots are a little big for young seedlings. No worries though. With coco you have got to keep in mind that YOU will have to feed ALL regular nutes and micro/macro nutrients along with supplements. Tap water is not the best to be using...... Like the link said, coco is closer to hydro than it is to soil growing. Best advice is for you to read read read and then when you are tired of reading, read some more.......

Hi Dutch Pimp thanks for the link and info a good read

    @CanGroIt's

I have done lots and lots and lots of reading and still am to be honest, I know you need to add any and all things needed in coco as it is bare with no nutes or anything else in it, I will be using "ionic coco grow" when i finialy do start feeding the little ones as this is specificaly for coco so it has all the nutes and from what I gather also the micro etc

I was going to plant them in 2 litre pots to start with but decided to just put them in the 11 litre instead, they started there first few days in "root riot" cubes in a proporgator, they have been in the pots for about 10 days now, I have seen some growth but it seems prety slow but then again I have nothing to compare it to as I havnt done this before.

Also I know tap water might not be the best but seeing as a lot of people use it I saw no reason to buy bottled water even though it was on my list of things to do if needed but the tap water seems to be doing ok (I think) and the tap water here is drinkable so cant be all bad

also I hpe this thread is in the correct section, seemed to be the right choice but if it isnt I appologise to the mods

    regards

I have done a few grows with coco, I am not an expert but if you have any specific questions I may be able to help. It looks like you have got things pretty much sorted setup wise. If you have access to a camera, start a grow log. It makes it much easier for other people to spot any issues in your setup before they become a problem.

I have never done a coco grow, Hydro is my thing. Looks like you have all the basics covered. The only thing I didnt see, and might have missed, is a fan for circulation inside of tent. Actually if not doing already you should have a "slight" breeze on them right now to strengthen their stems up. As far as Tap water, I use tap and it is "city" water. Get a ppm/ec tester and find out what your tap water reads at. If you have a hard water issue you might learn what Calmag is real quick :weedpoke:

Am I doing it right so far?

again thanks for all the info so far people it is much appriciated

@PhatJay im going to try and get my camera working and post some pics in a grow log but cant do it at the min but it is on my todo list

@tinytoon sorry I should have made it more clear on my list but as I mentioned I do have a fan blowing fresh air into the grow tent, the tent is open and the fan is about 3 feet away blowing a nice little breeze into the tent to circulate the air and also give the little ones a little movement

I also think I need calmag or similar as even though I call this my first grow I did totaly screw up on my very first attempt, I had nute burn and other things (leaping before I looked) and this time decided to do a lot of research before I did it again, however I think that calmag was the one thing I had missed so I have purchased some BioBizz Alg-A-Mic and the only reason I bought it was becuase for the life of me I cannot find any calmag on ebay here in the UK however I am hoping that Alg-A-Mic will do the trick

I have also purchased a digital trunchon meter and when testing my tap water (left in an open 5 ltr botton for 24 hours to have chlorine evaporate) I get a reading of 390 ppm, however if it comes to it I have no problem buying bottled water that has plenty of calcium and magnesium in it

    regards

If you are using tapwater you shouldn't need calmag. If you are struggling to find things on ebay try growell instead, they do mail order and have a great reputation. They can be a bit pricey on some things though.
