    bad neighbor

I've lived in my area for 7 years, and after 2 months go by from when I bought the house, I received a letter from the city because my lawn is not "green enough". I did battle with the city and explained my situation. They understood. I asked them for records of reports in my house, and it turns out that my next door neighbor had been reporting us to the city. Later, we get a letter in the mail from her telling us to move away and that I don't know how to own a house. Since then, she had been harassing me off and on. Well, I did some digging on her and come to find out, she smokes. I smoked too (not as often) but she harassed me so much before she even found out about my small habit. She let it slip all over a social networking site that she does this and bragged about it while on company time. She also mentioned how much she hates me. I've attempted to speak with her on how she felt about us moving in, but she remains very cagey and doesn't want to hear anything we have to say. She has caused so much stress in our lives that I've been on several anxiety medications in the past 7 years.

I've figured out why she hates me. It may be because she wants to raise her property value up, and since the home I purchased was a HUD, it meant it needed a lot of work. Her first priority was to goad me into making it a home that measured up to her standards (keep in mind this is an unreasonable request especially if you moved in 2 months ago). Her and another neighbor have teamed up to harass me and write letters to my house. She threw an egg at my car at one point. I've spoke to both of them face to face. The other neighbor has left me alone, but the one who smokes won't let me be. She doesn't even know that I know her secret. I'm honored to know fellow smokers on my block, but this one has been very problematic (I suspected she was just racist before). I don't know what to do. I've kept a detailed log of all of her incidents, and it just baffles me that she is so arrogant, rude, nosy, AND a smoker (plus she does other drugs which were confirmed on her page). She always has something to say about each little home improvement I have made over the years, and I am just fed up. She won't let me talk to her, or try to resolve the situation like a good neighbor would. I don't trust her, and I think one day she might try to narc on me. Since all of the trouble has happened, I have kept my house free of anything incriminating ( this has been the case for quite some time). I am tempted to ruin her and force forclosure, but what if an LEO moves in next door? I'm in a serious predicament indeed. What would a fellow smoker do in this situation?

No matter how negative a neighbor is; you will only come out ahead by keeping your cool.

I strongly suggest that you determine your rights by law. I don't suggest addressing your neighbor at a legal level, however it is imperative that you know your rights and so that you know what actions she has taken which qualify as illegal. It is good you are keeping notes on incidents and associated dates. Make sure to preserve the social networking evidence on both Marijuana (which notable may be legal for her to have) and most importantly abuse of other drugs or alcohol. I am sure this will assist you if and when your neighbor forces a legal situation upon you.

I would recommend speaking with the neighbor that is now leaving you alone; perhaps they can give you insight into the deeper reason that the second neighbor is still acting out against you.

Being the mature party is hard, but if you can figure out their real problem, then maybe you can address it.

Be safe; don't break any laws!

Speaking to the other neighbor isn't an option. They are both friends, however my next door neighbor did say something wrong about her "friend", so that gives some insight on how she is. I would never break any laws, that would be a dream come true for both neighbors. So far, I've been keeping a log, plus I have captured the info from her page. As time goes by, I'll keep capturing info, maybe shoot an annomyus e-mail to her boss with the info about drug use in it (I'll save that for another battle just in case). She says she wants to move out, but she's been saying that since 2008. I was just hoping for her to just move away, but that was not the case.

Throw about 5 handfuls of alfalfa seeds on her lawn and let the fun begin haha. Everytime the lawn gets cut after that itll spred seeds everywhere. An endless battle haha

More like a Municipal Ordinance, same shit really though, just it differs from city to city. Never heard of some stupid shit like how green your lawn is but I know many places come after you if you grass is too tall. Both instances I assume the ordinance has to do with public eyesores. Makes sense in a way but way too intrusive..

Yeah. If the lawn looks brown, the city can harass you. THe thing was, I was focusing on the inside of the house. I planned on getting a drought resistant lawn installed later, but she forced my attention to the outside of the house. So, I bought some Zoyzia grass dug up the front lawn, and laid it down. Since zoyzia grass has rhizomes that spread, I only bought just enought to satisfy her. Well, after we bought it, we received another letter from the city saying that we didn't have enough lawn to satisfy the requirement. We explained the situation to the city and they left us alone after that.

Pics and vids would be really hard to get because she keeps her property imaculate. The only proof I have is the conversation on her page which is connected to her employment info, and a big ass pic of her on her page (the pic isn't incriminating though). I have dates and time stamps on it. I plan on taking her down. I just want to wait for a little bit so I can get my ducks in a row first. I don't want her to think I'm the one who got her, I'm going to make it look like someone far away (possibly on her page) did it.
