    losing butter

i am new to making cannabutter but have been having great success at it. i am wondering why it is that i will use 2lb of butter to make a batch but after straining and pressing the plant material and cleaning the butter, i seem to end up with only a little over 1lb of cannabutter. where is my other 1lb going? i don't expect to get the whole 2lbs but did not expect to lose HALF. any pointers?

    losing butter

Most is lost in the Mash and Cheese Cloth...

Once you strained Mash and squeezed the Cheese Cloth, replace Mash, Cheese Cloth over catch basin and slowly pour 4 to 8 cups 212* water over mash to flush, then squeeze again...

    losing butter

I I started with eight pounds of butter and ended up with just six pounds of cannabutter.

I use cheesecloth and a potato ricer to really squeeze the mash after cooking.

Afterwards I have a bunch of hockey puck looking things that I just toss in my compost. I have tried to boil the remains and several other recommended steps for recovering the remaining butter. The return for the effort is so small like 1/4 cube that it is not even worth it.

Probably the best advice for you is to add lots of water to the mash and heat then strain and cool the cannabutter will harden on top of the water. Please update the thread if you find a way to get most of your pound of missing butter out of the cheesecloth and leftovers.
