Introducing Myself (to You)
Hi, I'm an Albuquerque native suffering from "grand mal" epilepsy, and I am currently a registered member of the NMDOH medical cannabis program. I've opted to use cannabis instead of pharmaceutical anticonvulsants to control and treat my seizures because of the terrible side-effects and general ineffectiveness of the many varieties of pills I've tried.
I've been aware of this program since it's creation several years ago, but only recently made efforts to join because of what I had been hearing about consistent product shortages and the general lack of access to quality medicine through the program at that time. Recently I have come under the impression that it is becoming more possible to obtain truly high-grade herbal medicine through several reputable producers (the obfuscation and clandestine nature of the program still frustrate and confuse me, so I'm not sure how specific I can really be here); however, my first transaction with a "non-profit producer" was actually rather disappointing, leaving me with mediocre, seedy, shwaggy cannabis, for a rate above the going street value.
I hope that through this website, there will emerge some way for people like me to find access to medicinal-grade cannabis without having to deal with the unregulated profiteers who are selling "medical cannabis" for the wrong reasons, and deceiving medically ill patients out of their money with sub-par medicine.
As I mentioned, I find the obfuscation and secrecy surrounding producers in New Mexico very much an obstacle to the kind of open, community-based discourse that will be necessary to arrange a truly viable system here. Never the less, in order for a discussion to take place, we will have to have some means of referring to the producers, so in the future I will plan on using their initials and possibly their city to distinguish who I'm talking about (I believe this will satisfy the non-disclosure i have agreed to concerning the producers, unless I am otherwise informed)
I look forward to frank and honest discussion of the issues of medical cannabis use in New Mexico,
-Marc

The impression of shortage can often create a panic to where people will buy more than they really need, thus creating a real shortage, like when Johnny Carson joked that America was having a toilet paper shortage in 1973, thus causing the biggest toilet paper shortage in American history. I'm also looking forward to the DOH opening up this program to the actual scope and scale of the state, and I know there are some expert growers in this state. I just hope you guys aren't bogarting the herbs, or the information that makes those herbs accessible.

This is a perfect subject for a thread.
I also would like to continue this subject next month on a live internet MMJ Talk Radio show.
Some of you know that I am an advocate patients and the NM MCP.
Over the last few months I have actually been working in the trenches at one of the producers in the front office. I have learned a lot and have met many patients. It has certainly been a heart warming experience.
The statement of "obfuscation and secrecy surrounding producers in New Mexico" is something I would like to know more about.
What is it you would like to know and what are your concerns?
To all of you I would like to know your best case scenario on what you would like your experience to be when buying your medicine.
What needs to be changed and initiated?

My concern is the lack of information about producers leaves them unaccountable to patients, and that the secrecy perpetuates the concept of smoking marijuana as a criminal action, or at least something that should be hidden.
One thing that would help a lot would be if all the producers had websites with HD photographs of the actual harvests that they are selling at the time, or at least if there was somewhere that patients could compile photos of the cannabis from the different producers. Another thing that would contribute to an "ideal experience" would be if these "non-profit" producers could sell the products at much lower prices. It's seriously wrong that they sell the stuff for as much as it costs on the street, plus delivery fees. I think plant limits from the state and other institutional factors may be driving up costs somewhat, but obviously some producers are charging less, and some are still charging street value, i.e. price gouging.
For me, I guess an "ideal experience" would be to pay a fair price for the best available medicine - something that I need on a day to day basis for my health - without being ripped off or profited off of, sold seedy mediocre bud, or made to feel as though I am doing something that needs to be a secret.

This is an issue that does need to be addressed.
It is being indirectly addressed through time. In the past 5 months, we have been able to consistently serve over 100 patients through questions/answers and medication. While this is not 3000, it is 100 more than the program was able to handle 5 months ago.
We take pride in the personal relationships we developed. We have even hired only patients. Anyone who is a member of Budding Hope can contact us directly 24 hours a day.
My advice, from someone on the other side of the phone:
Find a producer who you are comfortable and confident with. Talk to them and call them day or night. Find one who is right for you and can help guide you to the right strains. Ask questions. Are they offering grams or ounces? Try a sample. Get personal. Ask more questions. Talk about quality. Talk about strains. Talk about financial assistance. Talk about the program. Talk about what you like and definately talk about what you don't like. Very quickly, you should find that special producer you are looking for. I agree with the secrecy, but thats due to uncertainty. Secrecy and uncertainty is far from what it was 6 months ago.
Time will solve all this, but you can negate time if you jump out there and find a producer of your own. Its like finding a favorite restaurant.
