Germ first, or just plant.
Hey guys, Few day reader, First day poster! I have been reading around at ALL The info that is out there for growing, and am honestly overwhelmed and hard pressed for accurate information.
I am actually going to start a very small grow, 1-2 plants, and have never started from seed, only 2 week old starts. Here's my questions:
Is it OK to just plant the seed before germing it in a wet napkin? If so, how much longer can i actually expect to wait for some sprout?iambuterdtoast Reviewed by iambuterdtoast on . Actually
It is NOT necessary to germ first. You can do your germ step right in your grow medium.
I personally find it easier to germinate in a paper-towel like material but you DEFINITELY can germ right in soil or w.e/ you are using.

Ok listen. I have already posted this several times and really wish i knew how to save it because it is the only way IMHO to germinate seeds. The paper towel method is for rookies. This is not third grade anymore. Take ur seeds and put them in a shot glass of distilled water.(I even used mineral water once and it worked just fine) cover that shot glass with another cup to block the light. Leave for 24 hours. When u uncover the shot glass u will see the seeds have already cracked open. Now very carefully transfer these seeds from the water into your grow medium inside a solo cup with holes in the bottom. Now cover this cup with a ziplock bag and secure it with a rubber band. Place it directly under ur light. Twice a day spray the soil a little to keep it moist. When it sprouts remove the bag. There u go. All u need to know about germinating a seed. Fuck all the other fancy things people say. Nature does not mix ferts. It mearly gives the seed humidity, warmth and light. Expect them to sprout within seven days. Usually around four

Thank you very much, that answered my question, and very quickly.
One more for the records, If i just put my seeds in the soil last night, should i leave them be and hope they sprout?
Thanks a ton guys, i have been searching my ass off for information, and though i am able to find numerous posts, nothing exact. I know this isn't an exact science, but every little bit helps!

It's perfectly fine if u put them straight into the dirt. Think of how it happens in nature. There r not paper towels or shot glasses of water under the plants as they drop seeds. I would just recommend covering ur cups with a ziplock and keeping the top of the soil moist because it can dry fast. They will be just fine. Maybe just add a few days to the germination time. Then again they might surprise u.

Also keep it in a humidity dome or if you planted in a party cup or something (like me) you can cover it with plastic wrap or something like that to keep the humidity in. Once it sprouts you want to give it light for the veg schedule . I personally have tried 24/0 and 18/6 and have had better luck so far with 18/6. Not sure though, and that's what is mostly recommend.
Good Luck, and make a grow log too
I really enjoy watching others grow!

I dont see the need for complete darkness. Actually I would say go for some indirect light. It's real simple. Think about what happens in nature. Does the sun hide for a few days while seeds germinate.

I will definitely make myself a grow log, as i do have my digital camera. I'm going to try with 18/6 on the seeds and see what happens. I have also placed a 2x1 foot heating pad under my computer case(using as a growbox until i get some sproutage).
