HELP ASAP!!! CAN YOU SAVE HER...

I have a small seedling, roughly a week and half old. Never had this problem before. I wish I had pics but I don't. I've been searching for days, literally. It has it's first set of leaves(cotys or whatcha call it), then one set of real leaves and then the second set is just starting to come out. First the cotys turn yellow, starting from the tip/end till the whole thing is yellow. It took about 24 hours for the first set to yellow, but now the first real set of leaves are starting to turn. No browning yet. This happened with my last 3 babys, all no bigger than 2-4 inches, with no more than 2 sets of real leaves. I don't get it. I've filled out the problem finder, read and re-read all my mags and books. What the hell gives. The first one I had in jiffy cup, with coco, the kind you water and it expands, under 2 CFL's. The second and third one's I had in small cups with seedling mix. Water is OK, not to hot, not to cold. I even experimented with one by adding some organic "tea" I use, diluted of course. Then the forth seedling I tried in a different brand of coco but same results. I've set them in window sills for direct sunlight for a few hours everyday. I'm pretty sure I've tried everything. The first one I had this problem with the tips of the leaves started to turn brown/crispy. When they are still yellow they are still soft(ish). I've grow successfully before, which is why this problem is really driving me nuts. Plus I have a lot riding on this. Please help me, I cant keep buying seeds and I'm stuck here in the south so I don't have much options. No despenseries or even good dealers to be truthful. It's pretty sad how little people care about what they consume. "What's organic?" is my favorite question. Please help. If you want to email me you can. [email protected], I'd even call someone if I knew it would help.

hmmm, I could be wrong, but you said you had them in cups only? Root bounding is easier to spot because it starts at the tip/top of the plant and works its way down...the leaves don't get brittle or anything, just yellow...if you have them in cups and there on the 3rd set of leave I could see this possibly being the problem, transplant them to a gallon container, then again before final flowering.

You can check for root bound by letting the soil dry out a little(not completely)squeeze the sides to loosen the dirt, turn it upside down and slide it out(I use two fingers to brace the stem as well)...if the soil is compacted together its root bound, if there's still loose soil in the cup and it starts to fall apart when you try to slide it out, its not root bound...

yeah, I used them small cups once and I'll never use them again.
Plant your seedling in a one gallon pot. Sounds like you might be experiencing problems possibly due to not enough venting with the cups.
    Hope this helps.
Can you check your waters PH?

organic is all natural material that would feed a plant at least from a plant prospective. examples would be bat, seabird, earthworm poop. id say your soil is too rich or ph is an issue. always check your ph and start with that when problems arise.

I've checked the root bound theory but that wasn't it. My PH has also been good, usually around 6.8-6.5. And thanks to everyone for their quick responses. I'm still searching for answers. Gotta keep on keepin on... lifes a garden, dig it.

PS. I love this site and how it feels more like a family than a forum

your not going rootbound that young and if ph is good, then your soil is the next thing to look at. what are you growing in now i seem to miss that the first time? if you have potent soil it could cause that. joe dirt...lol. also coco requires lower ph if im not mistaken. double check that with coco growers. and maybe your window is too hot, you know like a magnifying glass. seedlings are fairly resilient so i think youll be fine.

I've been checking the window temp. but it's ok. It's still pretty chilly down here most the time. I've moved the sick plant into different seedling mix. Didn't want to disturb it but it's already pretty bad. It's going down just like my other ones did. But I'm testing the new seedling mix with 2 new babies. Maybe it wont happen to these girls. I'm going to keep looking into what the culprit is though.

may i suggest some fox farms ocean forest. great soil its a no brainer and dont need to feed anything for a couple of weeks. you still didnt say what you were using. then clone and choose your medium that way you preserve your stock.

I'm still unsure of what my problem is. I'm out of PH solution so I'm gonna get some today and check PH again. And thanks again to everyone who's trying to help. I guess there's only one true way to learn huh.

keep on keepin on:thumbsup: you do have drainage in cups right? yes you cant run out of ph solution or your in trouble. everyone who doubts that will pay. i dont remember if i mentioned, you dont really need to add anything nute wise to seedlings. let them stabilize first and use whats in your mix if its soil. as for coco it might be more ph sensitive and need a very light nute.
