Hey Man> first of all what you need for a successful harvest, is to not dick around with the 85 wt lights. it might be fine for a seedling but who wants change out lights as they get bigger. just bite the bullet and buy a ballast and a 600 watt bulb, a reflector, and you should be set up for lighting, oh yeah and a timer. secondly, if you only have a small space, you should consider hydro over soil. reason being that the plants get grow a little tighter, and its easier to get all your nutrients exactly how you want them and your ph just right as well. but then you gotta buy a tri-meter if your interested let me know i can send you a pic of the one you should swing for. but be prepaired to make a little investment of time, money and a few fights with the old lady about it. especially around week 6 of flowering. but if you are patient, you dont fuck with the lights, and you treat your plants with care and keep your ph at 6.0 you'll be rewarded heavily. in the end nothing but sweet sweet blossoms.

    You've been HIGHly educated

Uhhhh, actually hydro requires an additional shitload of knowledge than soil and your results, particularly as a newbie, are unlikely to be better than if you had gone with soil. Just sayin...

If anyone actually disagrees, please speak up.

I'm Sorry fellas but i still gotta hold my ground on the hydro. I mean I'll give it to you that soil is less involved, but I personally have had tremendous 6 foot tall success from a hydros system i designed, and why ? beacuse i play god... I say when the sun rises and sets , and i have a precise control over the nutrients and water. it does take more patience, involvment, and comitment, but if you dive into it and get a crash course so to speak, pretty soon i think you'll find yourself talk about ph, and your CO2 ppm's and your nutrient uptake and the spectrum coming from your grow lights, etc. etc... and also on my first hydro run i got over a pound per. also with soil, it's harder to get rid of pests, and it's easier to over water. Just sayin...

Just my 2cents on the Matter. If I was first time growing all over again this is a rundown of how I would go (again lol)
    Operation Stealth Shot
    1. Low space? Nosy Neighbors? Uptight GF/Mom/whatever?...
    Automatics...
If your going to grow personal and just need med's to come in consistently these are your best friend. Most are cheap efficient and generally fun to grow.
You mentioned WW and WR so I'm taking you like the Intense body high's of the "white" Family. Well lucky for you they make Auto's in both strains.
Some guys will tell you a lot of things about Auto's I personally love them. They are a (strain)XRuderelis which is the "other" strain people forget exist. There are actually 4 Genes of Marijuana and there is nothing genetically wrong with Automatics so long as they are not Feminized. Those are horrible creations and subject for another discussion.
    2. Get a small 2X4 tent or an Black Ikea closet.
3.Those CFL's are actually pretty damn good bulbs and will do the job quite nice. I have done 4 x 23WCFL in a Ikea closet with just 3 Auto's in 1/2 Gal Pots... pulled .83oz, 1.1oz, and .90oz... and that was just for shits and giggles.
4.Stick to Soil. You don't want to try Hydro your first grow because your going to kill something. Its just reality. some Guys can pay very close attention to detail and successfully pull off hydro grows their first time. There are also guys who cant get but 15 Grams off an Auto with HPS....what does that tell you when I pull .50-1oz off them? I'm better? no I just have more experience. Now for your secend grow? Go ape sh!t and grab an Ebb flow... But for now keep it basic
Good soil to start with is Sea Forrest. next decide whether you want to go Organic or not. there is no 50/50 there is no Part-Organic... either Synthetic... or Organic. If it says "Organic" and comes in a bottle chances are its not. Thats still Synthetic unless it says OMRI. Then yea... Its organic and safe to use. I grow TLO which is 99% Organic. there is no 100% organic because we are human and SOMETHING is bound to have chemicals. The only bottles I buy from a store is "Serene" from Roots Organic. And thats basically liquid sea kelp. Anyways
TLO short breakdown (I'm not going to go into soil mixes and things I'll because your just starting , not growing 4-6Oz dirt munchers like I grow)
NEVER USE CHLORINATED WATER!!!! (this is a MUST with TLO not a maybe or a "Ill try" a MUST)
NEVER USE Synthetics (This will severely dehydrate the Microlife and kill them)
NEVER PH BALANCE! (Let the Microlife do their thing. After you apply Molasses @ 2tsp per gal that first time go down to 1tsp with you tea, they will balance it to perfect 7. Its amazing really)
-Ocean Forrest (Gots good Micro mix up, fungi and Worm castings.)
    -Black strap Molasses
    -Sea bird Guano (Veg)
    -Bat Guano (Bloom)
    -Kelp (dry or liquid form)
-and last but not least CalMag (final 3 weeks of bloom)
With Organic growing there is no need to flush because there is no salts to build up. Brew Tea with all the Supplements (Not nutes lol) In a 1gal milk jugs with a Aquarium pump and Airstone attached. Let brew for 10-24 hours depending on what water you use. I suggest using R/O from a grocery store water dispenser. (You know the ones out front. Grab a few Jugs and go fill em up)But because of the CalMag flush 3 days (The microlife break down this stuff fast luckily)
Transfer the pots at least 2 times I suggest a Red Dixie cup>>>1/2 Gal or 1gal Pots
Let the plant stay in the dixie cup till week two of bloom. By then Auto's roots should be established and outgrown its current set up.

If you go Synthetic I suggest you go all out and grab House and Garden two part. Or Advanced nutrients 2 part.
-I suggest Light warrior and CoCo Coir mix. This will keep things nice and moist
-the Nutes @ 25% strength till bloom.
-Upon bloom use @ 50% strength
    -Bud Candy (Bloom)
Remember to FLUSH!!!!! this is the last week of the plants life and Auto's are particularly sensitive to Nuking so go easy on them. They finish in 8 weeks (most) from seed to finish so week 7 start flush.
Remember the plant only Veg's 1-2 weeks, after that use Bloom nutes as you should see the kick over. They do not require 12/12 to bloom. 20/4 is best.

So thats the basic run down of a stealth Auto grow. The Bulbs do make a huge difference so the wattage your using should be great. like I said I used 23W you get from Home depo. I just have a bit more experience and thus I was able to "tap" the plant a little more.
After you understand and see the first grow happen even though itll be Automatics you will understand the life cycle and how much energy plays a part in growth.
I even play Music and hum to my plants to encourage good energy and Karma. They really do grow better idc how many people think I'm crazy.
But when messing with "Bigger" full sized plants I'd suggest trying two in the Ikea closet and upgrade to a T5 lighting system
You can set up 1 bulb on each wall with two up top for a total of 6 Bulbs that you can also get from home Depo.It will require a bit of Electrical know how but I can walk you through it later if you want. That will be quite enough to tap 2oz's from that grow no problem.
The sky is the limit once you understand basics. I have 1 room thats 60 plants, SOG, with a 8Bulb T5 HO and 1K HPS making around 150,000 Lumens in 2-3 Gal Pots, TLO soil pulling 1-2OZ a plant fairly easy. Another thats the same light set up with 2-4+oz,5Gal TLO monsters. That's not hard to obtain , but believe it or not I started with bag weed in the same Ikea closet I'm telling you about.
I stopped Hydro but thats because Hydro will produce more... But Hydro can't match TLO's Taste and smell. The resin in TLO is Ridicules.
But yea I have pulled 4oz plants with a few 5.50oz Hydro monsters with only 3 weeks veg and ebb flow... But the Taste was. ok.... I dont like ok herb anymore... I like Organic Herb ^.^b
Hope this helps a little I know its a lot and remember this is only my 2cent a lot of guys will tell you how to grow. I'm just telling you How I WISH i started instead of with Miracle Grow in little pots with bag weed and B1 >.<.... lol horrible... God the things I didn't know.... Oh well....
    Happy harvesting!

Zerowing, what kind of problems with fem auto seeds did you encounter? I'm running eleven or twelve right now outdoors.

I have found Feminized Auto seeds are inferior genetics. Some don't auto flower some are retarded or stunted, and the rest are good. But that's 2/10 or so. I have gotten lucky before and got 6/10 good ones but playing roulette every time you drop beans is a pain. I like regular Auto's better. usually 8/10 pop great and no stunted growth, maybe 1 boy. Thats because the entire DNA chain is uninterrupted. Automatics grown outdoors will always perform inferior to a good indoor by the way. I have yet to find a Outdoor auto that beats an indoor strain. Basically Sativa's, Afganica's and some Indica's are better outdoors and the Ruder and other Indica's are better indoors. Just my 2 cents if you get a 1+ oz Auto outdoors post, I'd love to see it...

I'm starting to get a little turned off on ANY kind of feminized seeds. They just tend to not be that vigorous it seems.
