For me, the major reason commercial growers should face regulation and inspection is consumer protection. I'm concerned with three areas in particular: contamination, patient privacy, and honesty in labeling and measurement. We know MMCs sell moldy and pestilential medication. We should promulgate regs that prevent and punish this behavior. We know MMCs have misused and misplaced confidential data. I don't have any interest at all in regulating non-commercial sales between caregivers and their patients, but businesses open to the public should have to comply with the rules and standards of their community, from the city fire code to the 14th Amendment as other businesses do.
