Milwaukee pH600 meter- Yes or No?

Looking to step up from my liquid drops to a digital pH meter. I know there are others out there that are higher quality (Oakton, Hanna, and others), but is this a decent and reliable meter? Looking around and $20 for a Milwaukee as opposed to $60-$70 for and Oakton sounds a little better to my pocketbook. However, if the Milwaukee is a total piece of crap then there is no need to even think about buying it. If anyone has some first hand knowledge of the meter that'd be awesome, or if someone has heard anything about it (good or bad) that would also be appreciated.:thumbsup:

Milwaukee is fine, but get the calibrating solution (4.01 ph) and perhaps some storage solution. The storage solution keeps the electrode tip from drying-out. If it does dry out, (even once) electrode is trashed and unreliable.

Question - what is storage solution? Can I just used water which is what I've been doing...?

I think the Milwaukee storage solution is some sort of saline water. When it dries it leaves a thick, salt-like residue.

Water tends to 'go bad' with algae and muck. Not sure the storage solution works any better or worse though. As long as you don't let the electrode dry-out I'm not sure it makes much difference. But Milwaukee does recommend it so I got it. (just before dropping the damn ph pen and cracking my new electrode...)

These things are a PITA. I have been using straight water for storage but was thinking it might be wise to add a bit of hydrogen peroxide to the mix. I'm leaning that direction. I'm figured that the recommended storage solution to be some kind of sterilized pH neutral water mix. Lucky me, my tap water comes out at 6.8 and weighs in at 6.2 - 6.4 after adding nutes. Thanks for the input.

Milwaukee recommends. cleaning, rinsing and storage solutions. And cost more than the meter. LOL You can also use ph buffer to store the meter. Use a small sponge in cap, with storage solution to help KEEP Moist.
