Too Hot? Please help a would be newbie

I am planning a cardboard box grow. I am thinking about using 6 23w cfl's. The problem is I am seeing flashes in my head of me sitting in a squad car wondering how I am going to explain to my land lord why her house burned down. So, naturally I am wanting to hear from other cardboard/cfl growers if this is a well founded fear?

Your concerns are well founded. There have been plenty of successful cardboard box grows, but the way I see it, you have enough to worry about growing an illegal plant.

Check out some second-hand furniture stores, I'm sure you'll find something suitable. Just remember that you'll have to make some holes in it (intake, exhaust), so choose wisely. It's definitely worth the little extra money. Plus you have a better chance of making it stealth.

I'd recommend getting something a little bigger than you think you'll need. That way it'll be easier to scale up and fit other things in there (carbon filter, inline fan, oscillating fan, reservoir, more plants, etc.)

You will rarely get better advice than from the Big Finn! There are many other building materials you can use better than cardboard that have reflective and insulating qualities, not to mention may be more fire resistant....mylar covered foamboard comes to mind right away! Take a walk thru a big building supply store and see if you get inspired by anything! They seem to come up with new insulating board all the time, and the insulation and sound deadening properties will help your grow stay stealthy too.

Thanks for the good words. I think I may just breakdown then and get a mylar tent. probably save me lots of time and headaches. The DIY thing was a do-able thought with cardboard. I could have used no other tools than an exacto knife and a paint brush. But drilling holes and building frames etc, not at all my field of expertise. I am a complete DIY idiot. Getting a huge piece of furniture and just putting holes for intake/exhaust, and cords does not sound too difficult either. BUT, I have a VERY small efficiency apt and there are stairs and stuff involved. I have no one to help me move anything like that around and no where to put it even if I could get it in. I see alot of PC and other small stealth boxes. But, I am looking to never have to buy weed again. I consume about 1/8 per week. Figuring in seedling or clone rooting time, vegging, and flowering I figure would need at least 2-3 oz per harvest to accomplish that. No way I am gonna get that kind of yield in a box that is max 24" in height (if you subtract the space required for the medium and the lights it would probably be more like 10" in grow space). So...HIGH-HO, HIGH-HO, IT'S OFF TO EBAY I GO.

Make sure if you buy a tent that you get it from a reputable company. There have been a lot of problems with cheap Chinese tents and off-gassing (do a quick google search) that will kill your plants.

Thanks Finn, I have seen alot of your posts and value your input. Any suggestions on a reputable company? I am going to post a thread asking the same question. I only want to spend about $100.00. The tent cannot exceed 5 ft in height. Thanks again.
