ph down - lime juice ?

Hey y'all, just checked my pH and it looks like it increased to green (which is somewhere around 7.5 maybe?), so I grabbed some lime juice out of the fridge, added about 30 drops to 5 gallons of water, and it lowered it to an acceptable level.

can anyone see any adverse effects of adding the lime? I use promix-bx and general organic nute line. they are in 5 gal pots. I only did it because I didn't have time to go to the hydro store today to get pH down, but if it works, then I don't have to go, right?

I don't water again until Friday at 3pm EST, so none of the lime-altered water will be used until then...

I use cal mag to increase my ph and baking soda to decrease my ph.

thank you for the tip. I also have cal mag, and am not all that worried about my pH when I add nutes. But seeing as every other day I'm NOT adding nutes, half the days I am watering with a raised pH. So is the lime juice acceptable, or has no one here f'd with that?

I not used lime juice but I have used lemon juice fur the same thin. It worked fur me in a pinch and didnt cause me any problems pilgrem. good luck to ya and safe growin.

another alternative is vinegar. That is what I am using instead of building up the Phosphate... and the plants seem to love it.

lol.. sorry, it was either this or get that song stuck in my head. Lime is a natural acid... shame to waste it by not mixing it with some Rum... but it would have to be safer than battery acid... and I have heard of people using it to lower ph.

Vinegar would be much cheaper though.

thanks bwd! was hopin I'd get a response from you. I'll probably get some pH down before Sunday water, it's just one of those things that you can easily spend 5-10x the money on a "solution" at a hydro store, when you could just as easily figure out what's in it and spend pennies. A friend of mine had to spray his plants and the guy told him just mix a certain type of dish soap with water and you have the same shit, at a fraction of the cost.

Beware these super-upcharged products!

emmie I assume that would be white wine vinegar? and only a very small amount, like a few drops per gallon?

I am using the cheapest store brand distilled white vinegar. it was like a buck for a gallon. That will probably last me for 5 years. I use a very small amount... 3 or 4 ml per gallon to lower ph from 7.2 to 6.4
