Should I focus on veg or flowering at this stage?
Less than a week I was alternating veg and flowering.
JustinxM Reviewed by JustinxM on . Should I focus on veg or flowering at this stage? This is my first plant I started this at the end of December and now at this point. This is an experiment plant to see if I can get into growing or not, I cut the leaves to see any difference in growth. but now being at this point should I focus on vegging still? I have been trying to flower it and nothing's really happening I think its a male all I see are little lumps. (see pics) Thats when I decided to cut the leaves to see if it would quicken the flower stage but still nothing. Any input Rating: 5

See this is where I get confused I understand the hours and all that, but can I turn both on at once or should I... let's say have the veg light on 24/7 then turn the flower lights on and off every 12 hours? I can't read tutorials because all the info is something I can't take in at once it just confuses the hell out of me. lol I rather just ask what I'm confused on because I'm doing something right besides the hacking away. and are UVB bulbs any good? I had one that seemed to work real well then I read it was real bad so I returned the bulb. But it sprouted all my seeds in a day or 2 so I wasn't suee. I left the UVB bulb on 24/7 for 2-3 weeks and it grew real quick. had some bleaching on the leafs but then that stopped after a while then I switched to all CFL and don't see as much response.

When you want the plant to flower, you have to give the plant 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness (hence, the 12/12 cycle). 12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark (so dark that you cannot see your own hand in front of your face).
Getting the right type of light will help (6500K for veg, 2700K for flower, or thereabouts), but the most important are the dark cycles for flowering.
As for the UVB, it's something to experiment with. Some say they help with trichome production, but then again they are dangerous for the eyes.
I'd really focus on getting the basics down right now. More lights (150w+ of cfl's), making sure the plant gets fresh air, at the right temperature, and getting the right nutrients for veg and for flower.
As for your original question, it depends on how much space you have. Also bigger plants require more light, more nutrients, more air, ect.
Happy growing

Good luck man, settle down with the ADD and watch the plant grow! :hippy:

Like I said just experimenting my first plant I have more seeds germinating right now because this one I think I stressed it. I had some odd timing light cycles going with it due to not being home at the right times to get the lights off and etc. Just getting the answers to my questions I came to confusion to figure out everything on my next serious grow(s)! Thanks for the help. I'll probably be posting and asking more questions I might try just a uvb bulb and see what that does to my seedling.

Simple solution to the light cycle thing. Get a timer!
They're only like $12 @ home depot. Plugs into the wall socket, you select the time it powers up, and powers off, and plug whatever you want into it!
Search Results for plug in timer

I hate to say scrap a perfectly savable plant, but if you've got more seeds and limited budget, start more seeds and get the timer! Seedlings will be fine with your current lighting,... then while they grow in you can get more light.
Also, if your not monitoring your inbound PH go get a droper test kit,... it's like $5 at any hydro store or can be found in fish stores too. Not as good as a PH Pen, but better than a sharp stick in the eye!
