SCrog or LST?
In case any of you saw my other posts, like Emilya. I think you must spend more time with your girls than in class. No, I am not stalking you LOL! I have no idea who you are but I have read so many posts and have learned a ton of good stuff, Thanks.
Anyway, I mentioned previously I had purchased a turn key cab. That very night (after a meeting with my friend Purple Mr. Nice guy :thumbsup
I had an epihany. I had a very clear vison on how to build a very cheap completely idiot proof cab from plywood and a U-haul wardrobe cardboard box (48"h x 24"w x 21"d). The beans are in the germination towel while I complete construction. Gonna put them in their first soil soon. I am gonna put them in plastic cups under an el-cheapo soda bottle humidifier (another Emilya gem) and a cfl or 2.
I want to describe the box and get some opinions if I might.
I got plywood sheets the sizes I needed to build a box within a box. It fits perfectly into the box. 1 side has a opening cut in it and the center piece was cut in 2 to make 'doors'. The plywood parts are all mounted and caulked together to keep them upright and eliminate gaps. I cut 2 flaps in the 'door' side of the cardboard and attached the 2 remaining center pieces to them. I took scrap pieces of cardoard and attached them to the edges of the flaps and put velcro on them to create a seal. I have mylar to cover all the interior surfaces. I have placed small blocks of wood wrapped in mylar and screwed to the plywood at graduating levels. These I am gonna use to attach the cfls and fan too and possibly shelve a scrog screen at whatever level I see fit. I put 4 4" pc fans in, 2 intake in the bottom on 1 side and 2 exhaust on the top opposite side. When it is complete I am going to test heat and humidity to see if I need to use all 4 or not. I have the leftover pieces so I can plug 1 of each hole if need be. I have a clip on fan and 6 clamp on cfl fixtures. I have built light traps for the intake and exhast ports from cardboard as well, they are both attached to the exterior of the box. I got the idea for those from that guy on you tube that does the 24 part series on how to build a box. (SIDE NOTE; IMHO that guy is a bit full of himself and perhaps something else, agreed? LOL!). I think the biggest problem I going to have is the odor control. I am hoping a can of smell gel will do the trick. I also intend to have a 24/7 pot of potpurri and febreeze plug-ins in several outlets.
What do you think? It is also upgradeable. When I can afford it I am gonna get a UFO LED fixture. I am gonna get yo-yo hooks and attach them to the interior of the top cover. But as it is, the whole project is coming in at about $125.00, 1/2 what I was gonna pay for a box that was 24"h x 21"w x 18"d, and probably never would have produced more than 2 auto dwarfs at a time. All I needed was my drill, some screws, a pair of scissors, a caulk gun, a glue gun, and Avery (the guy at Home Depot that custom cut my plywood). I will post some pictures when it is complete, provided I can figure out how to post pics by then. I will hopefully be putting an entry on the grow log page soon. Providing I don't make some foolish noob mistake and kill my babies before their time. But with the never ending stream of knowledge that flows from this forum they may be safe
