I always take the fan leaves off 1week before the end of flowering and never have any problems so go ahead knock yourself out my friend hope this helps

The reason I'm interested is because this would increase light flow to the lower buds. The only reason I'm thinking about this is because I read a thread by Zandor in which he says in passing: "You can cut the plant at the bottom, trim off all the fan leaves (thatâ??s if you have not already done so the last week before harvest to increase light and air flow)."
