We used to take camping and whitewater rafting trips on the Delaware River that borders NY & NJ.
Did a lot of hiking in the Catskill Mtns and the Adirondacks. Good times!
But I think my favorite was near West Point NY. We used to hike to the top of Storm King Mtn, which was only about a ½ mile walk, and when we got to the top it overlooked a broad expance of the Hudson River and we would crank the tunes, toke some good skunky budz, and fire up some Sabretts on the coals.
We would hang out there all day and come down around midnite drunker than hell!
Hell back then we weren't your typical lightweight hikers by no means, we didnt pack shit like raisins and crackers, hell no! we packed London Broils and cases of beer!
