Yes it is indeed "legal" to carry a scale with you if you are a qualified patient or not a qualified patient. Where it becomes a problem is when that item becomes part of a prosecution as evidence of "intent to sell" which is illegal.

You cannot be prosecuted for the single act of possesion of a scale but it will be used to demonstrate your intent as will baggies, pill containers and anything else you may have with you at the time of your arrest for the crime of selling or otherwise illegally distributing drugs. Selling Marijuana is illegal in California. Read the law for yourself.

California's prop 215 and sb420 do not allow for sales of marijuana under any conditions. Please read the law and then read it again and you will see this.
