Back from the meeting in Olympia

on SB5073. Not a lot of people got to speak, but those that did spoke out against the registry, citing privacy and security concerns that have recently arisen in numerous other states. Also addressed was the issue of collectives, to give them immunity the same as dispensaries, and the issue of the 1/1/11 date to register as a dispensary. Several people spoke on the issue of non-profit vs. for profit, and that dispensaries should be allowed to select their own business model, as would any other business.
Near the beginning, when it was put to the committee that patients need a safe, secure, regulated way to get their meds, on the committee seemed to agree, and one of the senators said it was "just common sense" to which the entire room applauded.
I think it will pass, I don't think we will get everything we want, but with what has happened with other states recently, I think they will try to find a way to appease us.

Oh, and James, I know it's driving you nuts, so us is those of us who are patients, and them is those making the laws, or attempting to.

I got home tired and sore, to find that Marc Emory has included us in his newsletter, and is imploring all activists, especially those in Cali and Colo, to come live in Washington for 3 months and help us!

We have what it takes to do this! The bill won't go into effect until after this next election. Let's show them how serious we are! :hippy:

won't go into effect until after what election? Or do you mean vote by the legislators. The waiting, waiting, waiting is BS.

It won't go into effect until next year, after the 11/2012 election, something about that is how long it takes to get it all the way through the legislature, and that is assuming it does, and of course that means more changes, more hearings, etc.

The ACLU continues to stick with 2012 timeline to support any legalization effort, but does support the need for patients to have safe access to meds through safe growers/distributors. It was nice to see that support, and their concern regarding patient registry.

Sweet, Mark has allot of support, what happen to him is tragic and our president should pardon him.

I am glad you got the exposure first hand with us and them.lol. I am sure this legislation once fine tuned in the amount of space we have in the act from .005-.900 something, is room to grow into..and then there is the legalization issue running parallel to this specific legislation which would logically be located in the UCSA rcw 69.50. ?? of Washington...it is going to get very interesting in the next 18 months politically in this state.

If we didn't have a senator whom has been personally affected by the ill effects of family members whom used cannabis to help mitigate the side effect of chemo with good results, this bill would not even be talked about. imho..

    Hiya Time.

    What came of this decision?
Are people allowed to register or not after that date?

My attorney tells me there is no time limit as of now...is he wrong?

so...........even if it passes, people are still in jeopardy until after Nov '12. Bullshit. It doesn't take that long to free people from legal entanglements over fucking marijuana. Get a fucking life, JHC. Games, games and more games. No wonder everything is fucked up. Declare a moritorium then. PUT A STOP TO THIS BULLSHIT. :wtf:

Here is a link for those interesting in watching the hearing. There seem to be some interjection of another hearing on cessation of smoking intermingled. Watch it if you want. I don't care too because I'm frankly tired of hearing the same old refrain...somewhere down the road it will be done. I've had enough of that language from friends let alone keep hearing it from the freaking government. And it never seems to come to pass.

You my friend are missing some great testimony from elected officials who are backing this bill because their family has mmj authorizations..a great watch.

This bill is going forward no matter what, with some slight changes.

I guess you missed my point. They can talk all they want about how they support the bill, putting passage of even a portion like protections off until 2012 is Bullshit. To me, that is just more grandstanding in the political theater. Passage, ASAP is what matters. The government always makes the simple complex because it functions disfunctionally and can't handle simplicity.
