    The Black Keys

I've been listening to The Black Keys non-stop over the past couple of years and I've also seen them 3 times.

I find their music especially appealing when I fire up, just after I fire up and...before I fire up again.

They don't sing about marijuana but I do seem to smoke a lot when I listen to these guys.
(The same thing used to happen when I was really into The Doors's "L.A. Woman" album.)

Is anyone else having a similar experience with this band?

I have to confess that I'd never heard of them before your thread. That is especially sad since they are a local band.

I'm listening to them right now and I'm impressed. That's a lot of sound for just two dudes. Their sound reminds me a bit of ZZ Top.

I'm going to give them a serious listen.

I get one-track with certain artists and play the same album over and over sometimes. Most recently I was stuck on the Story of I (Patrick Moraz) and I've played Meddle (Pink Floyd) so much, I drove my wife nuts.

They're good enough, but sadly their inflated success shuts the door on so many other acts that are even better blues acts. If you like these guys, try real blues sometime.

To me they hint of Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and even some Dylan, Sabbath & Led Zep every now & then.

I don't know much about their success, market penetration or aspirations.

However, I do know that I'm going to smoke some White Russian and crank up "Magic Potion".

Yeah Blue, I once played "Fearless" like 20 times in a row and then went to a Foo Fighters concert that same night and they covered "Fearless". LOL

I just repped you for the Toe Fat clip, but come on man.

I appreciate him putting this out there. There is nothing more disappointing than trying to share something that brings you much pleasure in the hopes of sharing that pleasure with others, only to have someone shit on you. It's taking a step that leaves you vulnerable.

If I didn't like it, I just wouldn't comment. I have no need to demonstrate an elitist knowledge of music to those who listen and enjoy music I find beneath me.

I'm not sure what "real" blues is any more than what "real" art is. I know what I like to listen to and I know what I like to look at. That's good enough for me.

Sorry if that's harsh, but I am on a tolerance break and don't have patience right now for comments like yours. If you don't like it, don't listen. You don't have to belittle something that someone else obviously really enjoys.

    Just my :twocents:

 lol, I've done similar things. Back when cassettes were king, you could tell which ones I listened to over and over again, because they were stretched and started to whine.

I usually pay no attention to the Grammys, but I heard on the radio here that The Black Keys won a couple of Grammys.

    Best Alternative Album
    Best Duo/Group Rock Vocal Performance
    Best Recording Package

    Nice!
