SCROG: How To?

quick question...

When doing a SCROG grow, how should one fit the plants into the screen?

Do I bend the new growth sideways (sort of acting like a strapless LST) under the screen--then slowly raise the screen as the plants get bigger?


If I have to weave the stems through the metal screen holes, then that would make flushing out the pots a BITCH

I would have to re-weave every stem OUT and back INTO the screen every time I flushed

SCRog is one of those newer techniques that are out there that can maximize yield vs number of plants or grow area. There is plenty out here to read about it and this resource is what I am using as I design my first SCRog. There are several good grow logs where people used SCRog and give more clues as to how best to accomplish it... just look for the word SCRog.

Based on what I know from my readings... let me respond to a couple of the items you mentioned. First, yes... you bend the top growth under the screen and train it to grow under the screen. You do not weave it, just train it to go sideways under the screen. Many start training the plant for this task before they actually go under the screen.

The screen does not move. Once you put it on there at about 10" above the dirt, it stays there. All growth at that point is trained to flow under that screen.

You are going to end up with a fairly massive plant growing up 10" and sideways a lot more than that. As the buds sights start growing, the growth will be straight up through the screen. There will be no removing of this screen until harvest time. Flushing will have to be done in place... and drainage will have to have been figured out before hand.

I have planned a SCRog table that can hold my plants above a drainage area, and an angled SCRog screen securely fastened in place. I commend you on thinking about SCRog... especially with fluorescents I think it is a good way to go. I can see already that it takes a commitment to spending a lot of quality time with your plants while they are training though, but I look forward to the experience as I "learn on the job." Well, You've already been thru my last documented SCROG. I made a couple post harvest pointers in there that are helping me with my current grow.

Luckily I have a solid 1000W footprint then! Magnum XXXL ocho 8" hood (Reflector dimensions: 38½ in. Long x 29½ in. Wide x 9½ in. Tall) cherry on top is the tempered glass lens :thumbsup:

6" inline canfan with a canfilter50 to match :thumbsup:

600W cooled hoods with digi ballast's

8 lamp, 4ft. long T5 light board :rasta:

panda poly film and a few other nick nacks

Please, for the love of herb--DO NOT CALL IT DIRT. That's a dirty word

Dirt is mud, sticks and swamp run-off..doesn't harbor life (other than bacterias and different fungi)

damn, no overflow drain in the middle of the room I'm using. I would have to possibly raise the pots in a self contained plastic bucket that drained out into a 5 gallon bucket--Just an idea

especially with fluorescents..
