When can I take cuttings? Don't want to veg much long?
I have been veg'ing for almost 4 weeks now and recently transplanted. Still running 18/6 (on/off) lighting. My plant is indica dominate (bubba kush) and is only about 3-4&1/2 inches tall. It does not look like I can take a cutting from it right now... also it is fairly 'bushy' but very short.
Any ideas on what I can do. I only have that one right now and water at least 3 or 4 girlys  ...(honestly have no idea on the sex of the plant but I like girls more LOL :jointsmilepoker2 Reviewed by poker2 on . So it's okay to have a plant in the vegetative stage for a long period of time?
About how tall should the plant before before I can safely take at least two clones from it?

Veg as long as you want:thumbsup: I'm not sure on your other question, you need a cloning expert:smokin:

You can vege for as long as you want before flowering.
Many say 3-4 weeks because they are growing SOG style with 10-200 plants and need the plants to maintain an even canopy.
If your growing just a single plant for personal use, I'd vege a month and a half from clone, possibly 3 from seed.
As for cutting a clone, if it's from seed make sure you've got it sexed first. No reason to clone a male unless your breeding
Got any pics of your proposed "mother"?

I can get some pics up in a while but I don't think it is showing any signs of sex yet..... It is about 4 weeks into veg. I don't mind going another week or two as long as I keep seeing progress
@canniwhatsis, Thanks for the reply but you only sort of answered my question or I just don't understand your answer :S. So if I was to take a clone from the "mother plant" that has been veg'ing for over a month do I still need to veg the clones that I take from the plant?

PS. Even if it is a male plant - It still produces buds that contain THC. Just not as much THC as a female would produce, correct? So these 'male' buds would be smokable correct? Or is a male plant so THC low that there is not purpose in smoking the buds from a male plant? It's personal use and I have a loww tolerance level right now.

Long story short, if you want more than .5 oz or less for your 2.5 months of hard work, YES you need to vege your clone in for at least 3-4 weeks after it's rooted. (Just a guess since I don't know your strain or how it grows, but that length of vege should hit 1.5-2 oz dried yield)
As for your question about the males,.... No, males don't produce buds, just long shoots of pollen sacks that open as soon as they are mature, then within a few day's fall off.
Does a male plant still contain THC, yes, it's still MJ, however it's not concentrated in trichomes like it is in female plants. The effect of smoking a male should be about the same as smoking a veging female.
Trichomes form primarily on the flowers, which become seeds if fertilized. So the plant pumps THC into em during flowering to deter bugs from eating the flowers/seeds.
Too bad it doesn't work on us Humans tho!:rastasmoke:
Pic is a Male in Full bloom. the little "Pods" in the pic are about 1/8" in diameter.

Okayyy some very good info for me! Thanks canniwhatsis!!
Now... I am going to CRY if my 'girl' isn't actually a girl! uh-ohHopefullyyyyyyyy it IS!
Yeah - I will probably take the cuttings and do maybe a month of veg. and at the same time keep veging the 'mother plant' with the cuttings.
(that will give the mother 2 month veg and clones 1 month veg)
**Do you necessarily need a cloning gel/powder? Or can you just cut the stem at 45degree angle and your okay to plant in peat moss+humid dome or cup of water/covered with plastic wrap.
PS. My strain is (bubblegum x og kush) -> Bubba Kush
80/20 - indica/sativa
From seeds
