couple weeks into veg from seed, leaves got torn off...
Hey there, this is my first grow and one of my first posts here. I started 2 seeds at a south-facing window a few weeks ago and for the most part have kept a floweing light period from seed, some days i have moved my plants into the closet with a total 80w cfl and fan running. I have had no problems so far except this morning when i was moving them to a different spot on the window sill for better sunlight they fell against the wall and the wall did some damage. one of the first sets of 3 leaves (after the 2 initial razor-edge leaves from seed) got ripped off and the stem got bent over at the soil line. i quickly picked them up, brushed the dirt off, moved some soil around the stem to hold it up again, sprayed the leaves with a squirt bottle, and put a fan on.
now I understand that cannabis has grown in the wild for 1000s of years and that they arent just going to wither over and die, they are strong plants...but i just wanted to see what some of the experts here think...is this anything to worry about?
Also another thing, from seed i havent gave them the most consistant light cycle. some days ive left them on the sill from sun up to sun down with a natural floweing cycle with the winter sun. some days ive gotten up in the morning and put them under lights in the closet for over 12 hours maybe even up to 16-18 hours....will this cause them to self seed, turn hermie? Also seeing as the days are getting longer now, eventually just leaving them on the window sill will put them back into veg in the spring..is that bad to start a seed in the short winter sun and let it show its sex and then let it naturally switch over to veg with the sun in the spring and go from there (given its a female)?
...if all this does cause them to self seed, will the resulting seeds also be hermaphrodites and therefor garbage ...or can i use those seeds this spring as a viable harvest? :jointsmile:WookieMan Reviewed by WookieMan on . couple weeks into veg from seed, leaves got torn off... You said those are a few weeks old in that picture? Hmm, mighty small to be that long into veg IMHO. They aren't getting what they'll need to produce any quality on that window sill.
I'm just guessing here, but it sort of looks like they are stunted on growth being thrown in and out of a vegetative state repeatedly. (no plant likes to be deprived of light and then overwhelmed by it, then deprived and so on it stresses them out completely) If you are lighting for the veg state keep it that way for a minimum of 3 weeks. (On these plants pictured, you may have to go a bit longer to re-convince them they are vegetating) If you are lighting for flowering stage keep it that way until harvest or re-vegging.
Others may have different ideas on your grow.
Best of luck to you!

I would not worry too much about a few leaves being torn off or the stem being bent. It appears you still have enough good leaves for the plant to continue photosynthesis and feed itself. MJ is a virogous plant and you really have to TRY if you want to kill it. As for the light cycle, yes definately something to worry about. Inconsistent light cycle will stress the plant out which will make it more prone to becoming a hermie.

You need to get some more cfl lights and a timer and keep those in the closet for a full 18 hours on and 6 hours off. Your not gonna have a successful grow the way your doing it. Hate to say it but it's just not gonna turn out.
