    Tiki's Master Kush Project

This afternoon will be five days since the seeds were planted. There are no signs of sprouts yet.
Temp and soil moisture both are good, so I'm just having to practice my patience at the moment.

That's about it as far as an update goes, just wanted to put something here so you all know I'm not abandoning this thread.

Five days?! It has never taken mine that long but it could be the strain or conditions?

Best of luck on your sprouters!

That's what I figured needs to happen to see if there is any merit in this. So I decided to log it, and hopefully this inspires others to do the same. Maybe eventually we could get a census on what all the constant variables are. :hippy:
Now I want my weed to have seeds... I wanna see them roll, too!

You beat me to the punch, I was gonna do a control grow using this piece of literature. I am however, using they theory that exposing a seed to ethylene gas for 2 weeks prior to germanation increases the female ratio substantially. We will see!

Hi GTD, I was wondering where you heard/read that ethylene gas will increase the fem. population of your plants?

    Thanks!

This is interesting. However the real question is:
Can gender be determined through phenotype in relation to cannabis seeds?
If you can answer this I will fly out to where you live, and give you a foot massage, or just follow you around on the Internet like a troll calling you my "master" for about a week.

Here is the link, enjoy the read. I tend to lend credibility to this article as it is a scientific paper.

Robert A. Nelson: Hemp Husbandry ~ Botany & Breeding (Ch 4)

Treatment of hempseed with ethylene gas will increase the resulting number of female plants by about 50%. Ethylene is produced by certain plants (i.e., bananas, cucumbers and melons), and these can be used to treat hempseed in a simple manner. About two weeks before you plan to sprout the seeds, place them in a paper bag or envelope and put that in a plastic bag with the peels of a ripening banana or cucumber. Replace the peels after a couple of days, and change the bags to prevent mold.
Hempseed can be feminized while they are forming on the plant. Fruit peels are spread around the area for two weeks before the plants enter the flowering phase. Remove the skins when the plants begin to flower. Otherwise, treatment with Etephon will accomplish the same effect.
When hempseed is treated with the female hormone estrogen, percentage of females that are produced will increase by about 10%. Dissolve a birth control pill in water and soak the seeds overnight in the solution. After the initial soaking, continue to treat the seeds by sprouting them on a paper towel soaked in the solution.

Thanks for answering GTD. Those are some really interesting tactics. I might have to try one or two.
