    Tiki's Master Kush Project

For this log I am going to be starting out with the testing of some early sex identification "myths".

The first is that female seeds have a different shape than males. (I can not remember who posted this first, or I would give credit.)
The second has to do with early signs of color. This theory comes to us thanks of WashougalWonder. Here is the link to the original thread. http://boards.cannabis.com/advanced-...female-id.html

The seeds are Master Kush from White Label. My plan is to pop four beans, and have two female and two male. Then choose the best two and breed for seeds. :smokin:
I sorted through my seeds and have chosen two that clearly have a nice sized "volcano". The other two are almost completely filled in. I would post a pic of this, but my camera couldn't pick it up.
They have been marked, separated, and are currently soaking in ph'ed tap water. Tomorrow they will be planted into 16oz party cups. :rastabanna:

    Here's a thought.

In da land of long ago, all weed had seed.
We would de'seed da weed by schlooping it up an incline and letting the seeds roll down.
Shirt box lids were ideal, double phonograph album covers worked too.

    The thought?
If we are hunting the rounder seeds, the first roll outs will be the roundest, yah?
I suggest this roll-down as a pre-sort for female seeds.

All that said, this round hole hypothosis is probably bunk.
There are too many environmental influences for this to be cut-an-dried reliable.
But, futzin' around wit' it keeps me out of da pool hall.

I did plant one round and one not-so-round hole, last run, and I did get one female and one male,
    Happenstance!

Got 4 more coming up 3 round, one oval.
If I get 3 females and one male, could still just be luck, yah?

A 1000 seed test would get my attention.
Wish I had the resources to do dat.

Guess we'll have to settle for 250 growers trying this 4 plants at a whack.

    Aloha Tikiroom,
    Mahalo fo' doin' dis.

    Aloha Weezard,

That is a great idea for presorting your seeds.

That's what I figured needs to happen to see if there is any merit in this. So I decided to log it, and hopefully this inspires others to do the same. Maybe eventually we could get a census on what all the constant variables are. :hippy:

Yanno Weez, you may have hit on a great point. There are a bunch of really good dutch seed breeders with the resources to do a successful experiment with this. I wonder if Arjan from GHS would be interested in such an undertaking for the sake of the buds he loves? Oh wait a minute, they just busted him at the last Cannabis Cup and I am not sure of the circumstances being that the Dutch are very closed-mouthed about arrests in that part of the globe.

I still would like to ask him if he could help out for the sake of us all ...

Today all of the seeds have sank to the bottom of their cups.

For germination and seedling stage I will be using Miracle-Gro Seed Starter Potting Mix. Amended with 25% perlite. 3 scoops mix to one scoop perlite.
Did the mention of MG make any of you cringe?? I know it's not the best, but that's what I have to work with until it's time to re-pot.

All of the cups got sterilized with Physan 20 (Thanks to LOC NAR for telling me about this stuff.) and rinsed with water. After that they all got filled the MG/perlite mix. I then flushed with 6.5ph tap water until the runoff was at 6.4ph.
It took 80oz. of water each to bring the runoff from 6.0ph to 6.4ph.

The filled and flushed cups sat out for about an hour, and then I planted the seeds using a method to be able to check the roots. This came to us courtesy of Dutch Pimp. :greenthumb: Here's a link to the post. http://boards.cannabis.com/basic-gro...ml#post2170640
I am also using one more cup as a humidity dome until the sprouts are above ground.

My code for the ID tag is:
    MK = Master Kush
    # = Plant designation
S = Sex Identification from seed shape
C = Sex Identification from seedling coloration
A = Actual sex of plant

You will not see the ID tags again until all assumptions are made on the coloring. This is because I am going to want everyone's opinion on the identification from coloring. Not allowing you to see the seed prediction should help to get an unbiased opinion.
