alohamahalo, i am so sorry, i'm hijacking your thread hardcore. BUT!, if you ever got around that issue with your soil, my two pennies would go to a looser soil mix, or go straight coco. On top of that, i'd look into airpots, i use em, they are the bees knees, only better.

Drove this from a couple voltage regulated supplies for a while.
Then got smarter.
Added 3 current regulators and ran them with a laptop power supply mounted on the light atop the fan;
