    AK47 Auto's _ day 37! (½ way there.)

This is my third ak47-af grow. The first 2 grows with these seeds went fantastic and without a hitch.
They grew to about 12 to 18 inches tall in MG with no added nutes, only tap water. I had less lighting at the time, but no real
stretching because of it tho. Yeild was good, and after a 2 week cure the taste was excellent!

I have two ak47' auto's growing right now, but this grow has been somewhat puzzling.
I know AF's are a smallish kinda plant, but it seems to me that on the last grow they were bigger by this time.
They are at day 37 right now, and are only 4½ inches tall and have about 35 more day's to go.
They are full bodied, nodes are close, flowering from top to bottom, and the cola's are getting thick. They look like little bonzai's!
The seeds were over a year old, but I don't know if that has anything to do with anything or not.

This grow I decided on using molasses. I use one dollup per gallon and alternate between clear water and the molasses everytime I water.
I noticed one plant turning a light green, and read that with the molasses causing more bud growth, it can also deplete the nitrogen levels.
So for that one plant I added 2 drops of Schultz's 10-15-10 to one quart water and I am now seeing a slight improvement in the color.

    Here's my troubleshooting form;
    What is your experience level?
    3rd grow
    Your Equipment:
.1) Type and wattage of lights.
    Two 65/300w cfl's and five 27/100w cfl's
    .2) Distance from tops?
    2 inches
    .3) Reflector type?
    homemade batwings
.4) Is there a consistent fresh air supply?
    Yes
.5) Do you have an exhaust fan and a circulation fan?
    Yes
.6) What are the bulb wattages, kelvin ratings, and schedule?

    MG (6 month)
    .8) Size of container.
    1 gal.
.9) Did you use peat pucks (or similar) to root clones or germinate seedlings?
No. Used the old paper towel method.

    Your nutrients and water:
    10) Source of water? (tap, bottled or filtered) What's it's ph before adjusting?
    Tap _7.0ph
    11) Method of checking water ph. (ph pen, test strips, aquarium test kit...)
    Test strip
    12) Method of adjusting water ph. (phosphoric acid, white vinegar, hydrated lime, PH Up...)
    Lemon juice (to ph down.)
    13) Specific brand and N-P-K ratio for each bottle. List dosages (quantity per gallon) and current feeding schedule.
On one plant that was yellowing I increased the N w/ Schultz 10-15-10. (Two drops in one quart.)
    14) How often are you watering between feedings, and how much per watering?
    Watering when dry. No feedings.
    15) Any additives or tea's? (Superthrive, CalMag, molasses, Mother's Earth...)
    Molasses, every other watering.
    16) Are your ph levels stable, or do they fluctuate?
    Stable
    17) What is your ingoing water's ph? ...your runoff ph
    6.2 ingoing, 6.8 outgoing.
    18) Do you foliar feed? If so, with what, how often, and at what time do you spray?
    No.

    Your growroom:
    19) Indoors or outdoors?
    Indoors.
    20) What size of closet, room or hut?
    26" wide X 15" deep X 60" tall.
    21) What are the temps and humidity levels while lights are on? ...With lights off?
78 to 82f lights on. 65f lights off. RH 20%
    22) Have you seen signs of insects in the growroom?
    No.

    Your strain:
    23) What strain are you growing? (Indica dominate or Sativa dom?)
    AK47 Autoflowering Lowryder Sativa dominate.
    24) From seeds or clones?
    Seeds.
    25) Is this an autoflower strain?
    Yes
I want to continue growing autoflowering AK47's because I really like growing this strain, and I want to somewhat master this particular type of grow before I jump into, and learn a different non auto grow. Any advise or suggestions are appreciated.

    High ...Rainhaze..

    I don't know anything about growing auto's...

...but, I agree that molasses too early, too often, too much; can probably affect the root system, especially in small pots.

I may have messed up current grow?...doing that.

    Hey Dutch,
    Thanx for your reply bro.
Well, I believe you might have nailed the problem for me when you mentioned "small pots".
The size of the plants in relation to the size of the pots escaped me because they were so small, but looking at the thickness of the main stalk made me realize there may be some truth to that.
So, I transplanted them both into a 7 gal container.(only had one) The roots were starting to root bound. The roots were still a good white color, so I'm assuming the molasses wasn't over done, but they def outgrew their pots in a hurry. I didn't give molasses until day 22, (as recommended) and I only give it every other watering.

Hopefully they should both do ok. Time will tell.

:thumbsup:Whats the best schedule for autoflowering seeds. I just got mine in the mail but I already have two random bag seeds that have been vegging for a little over a month and random dro seed that i planted 2 days ago that sprouted today. They are all on 24/0 under a 150 watt hps , 2 6500k cfls, and 1 2700k cfl. It just sucks because i wanted to start flowering the first 2 in like another 2-3 weeks but now i cant drop the lighting under 16-8 until the autoflower is either done flowering or I make another box. Please watch my videos and tell me what you think...in detail. Thanks

    I use 20/4 for my AK47 auto's. But I've heard of people using 24/0, and 18/6.

I have about 9 more days till harvest. There not as tall as I'd like, but that's most likely due to the problems I had in the beginning. The cola's are a good size so obviously there's some good about using molasses that I didnt have on previous ak auto grows.

my understanding with auto flower strains is you dont need a 12/12 routine. stick with 18/6 and let the good times roll. maybe in the last three weeks start reducing hours of light gradually.

Correct. Auto's are one lighting schedule during the entire grow. It's recommended to use either 18/6, or 20/4. But I even heard of people using 24/0 before.
Ive never heard of reducing the lights the last 3 weeks.

Hey RH! As you may know, I love my AK, but have never messed with autos before...we both grow very similar to each other except my closet is a little bigger than your space and you use an autoflower...just curious, but how much do those little things get you when they're done? It may be that the seeds for this batch were just old and that may have caused the smallish size, but I don't know much about auto flowering strains...hoping you get something for all your efforts tho!

Mods must be sleeping in lately....that was rude!

    Hey TANKJR,
When I grow AF's I usually grow two at a time. On the first try I was able to get over an oz and a ½. But on this last try I harvested them in the middle of January and got only about a ½ oz or so from both plants. They are cureing at the moment, but I tried some, and even tho the quantity was low, the smoke was still really good. Good taste! Good stone.
The only thing differently I did from the first to the last grow was, I used those stupid little styrofoam cups when planting the seedlings. I dont think that even tho I vented the bottoms of the cups, it was good enough, and I believe I left them in the small pots too long.:wtf:
I really like the AK47af's taste and buzz factor, but I'm still debating on going WW next.
Whatever I decide on, I'll more than likely go with AF's again, so that I can kinda "hone" my AF growing skills before moving on to a more traditional grow.
I like to do small grows, and I kinda like the shorter grow times.
I usually run out of herb from one grow to the next, but I dont mind for two reasons; 1. it helps me with my tolerance, and 2, There's nothing like the feelings of excitement you get as your growing and anticipating the next harvest.
If your thinking of doing AF's, they are actually pretty easy to grow. I reccomend that you germinate them, put 'em in a one gallon container first and don't use plastic or styrofoam cups. Once they are about 6" to 8" tall transplant them in a larger pot that will hold them to harvest. I usually use a 12" x 12" size for two plants at a time with good results.
I used molasses on this last grow and even tho the plants tuned out smallish, I still saw a significant increase in bud size by the way.
