growing question
As the clones are waiting to build roots they have to consume the nutrients stored in the leaves of the clone. We always leave a leaf or two on the bottom that we know will be withered away as the clone develops new growth.

Edit: In rereading your post, it seems you have clones in soil. As a guess, the most common problem is overwatering. Give them a little drink, dont drown them.
