Sounds possibly beneficial, but I would assume that milliamps would do the job....
DC current is safe at low amperage but creates heat in higher, and as resistance continues it increases the heat. Possibly that is what is occuring, as the soil drys resistance increases and warms it more like the sun? Wild guess. I do like the idea of a pair of screens on either side of the pot...gold? no way I am that spendy.
