why co2????
I keep hearing about people adding co2 to their grow room and or tent. What is this for and is it needed?

why co2????
No, it's not needed...it's used to increase yield. Small grows don't need it at all, just go breathe on the girls several times a day.

why co2????
ok, thanx... So I've been thinking about using dry ice to add co2, still looking for other inexpensive ways to add it to my grow area...

LOL! Unless you have a large grow, you don't need dry ice either....I repeat, just go breathe on them a few times a day.

BUT you're asking about why CO2 is used, shows a total lack of understanding how plants in general work and how mj in particular grows. Besides reading till your eyes bleed here, you should invest in a book about plant biology or horticulture.
To grow successfully, you need to be smarter then the plant you are growing.
BTW, TANKJR is correct, it is used to increase yields but only when everything else is dialed in. Small grows don't need it, if you grow properly.

why co2????
I have heard of people using baking soda with a vinegar drip to add co2. I personally have never tried this, as some carbonated water on the foliage or the method OM talked about are nice options.
You have to be very careful with that gas as it is fatal to humans and pets if used incorrectly or without excellent ventilation and supervisor. (Not for the noob IMHO, as it won't increase a small grows yields that dramatically to risk something that could prove dangerous.):weedpoke:

why co2????
I'm sorry if I came off wrong there Ninja....I was quite serious when I said if it's a small grow, just go breathe on it. You are a co2 generator and if your grow is small, say a closet, small tent, or cabinet...you can probably increase your yield slightly, or at the least make your plants a little bit healthier just by going and singing or breathing on them for 10-15 mins several times a day(singing supposedly is when you max at making co2)...this does several things for you and your plants...you get some real o2, the plants get some added co2, you get to spend some quality time with them and if you're observant and learn to "read" your plants, (something all noobs and amateurs alike should aspire to) they will "tell" you what's going on with them and you'll notice things about them you did not before.
The other thing is safety and like Lynhal said, co2 used improperly can kill your plants and you and your pets. OM is correct in saying there are other ways to make co2 cheaper than dry ice, or spending a couple c-notes on a tank and regulator, but I have to tell you they can be messy and quite stinky if you live where you grow. OPG (other peoples grow) yea, stink it up with co2 production! (I like how OM said he did that at somebody else's grow....LOL!These plants can prolly take more of it than we can! Big greenhouses should prolly have a sophisticated co2 dispensing and monitoring system, but most "me and my bros" grows don't need to add it....add some light and a few more plants if you need a bigger yield.

why co2????
ok, that makes sense, I've always heard that plants that are sung to grow healthier than plants that aren't. Never made sense until this co2 discussion(brain fart) lol but again thanks all info is extremely helpful

I like Tank's advice on singing to your plants. I will almost bet they will grow to look forward to and really enjoy your co2/o2 exchange tune times!
haha a really good, old song to sing to them would be, "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
