    New Technology vs. Old school knowhow

    Hello to all;
    I am a new member, but an old participant. The kid is now grown and out of the house. Momma and I have decided to rekindle our passion for mother nature and are looking at different methods of producing for our pleasure. In the old days we would plant outside in the woods and hope the wild animals or lucky people would not find our small farm. Now I'm thinking indoors, we have a spare room and would not have to battle the elements, whether animal, mineral, or vegetable. I have seen phototron, and heard good things. Is this the only self contained enviroment, or are there others. I don't want to go hog wild with this, just enough for momma, a small group of friends, and the old iron lung himself. Thanks. Remember, don't tip it---The carb hole's on the bottom!!!

    Hello Ironlung, welcome to the forum-

    The technology of today is fantastic and makes it a whole lot easier for beginners or people who live in shitholes like I do, but I don't think you could beat oldschool outdoor growing. If I lived in a country/area where it was good for growing mj outdoors I wouldn't bother with indoor, but you've just got to go with what's best for your situation. People who live in sunny places are lucky. There's no light on earth better than the sun. And outdoors you can grow 10 foot monsters because the roots aren't restricted by pots/containers, and the sun can get all around them and not just on the top like grow-lamps. I know outdoor has it's disadvantages like getting eaten by deers or getting found by someone but I think it has more advantages than disadvantages.
    Those phototrons look extremely expensive, do you not have a spare room which you could use? It wouldn't be hard to make it a self contained environment, plus you'd have more space than a phototron. What's the weather like where you live? Is it nice up until fall so the plants can mature properly or do you have to pull them a bit early?

    P.S- These aren't my pics I just found them on the web.

    Thanks for the responses, and the welcome. I now live in a more residential area than i did in my younger days. I do not have the time or inclination to go to the woods. I can't use the back yard because of close neighbors. I do have a spare room, however I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. On top of this momma would not want me to use the entire room for growing. I'm looking for something on a smaller scale that will fill our needs and that of a few friends. I will try and contact Zandor, thanks for the tip. Remember don't tip it, and the carb hole is on the bottom.

    If you don't wish to use the whole room you could just use about a quarter of it or something. Build partition walls from sheets of plywood or simply use light-proof plastic sheeting.
