a cancer patient that wants this should do edibles. (feel free to smoke and vape too!)
Anything they are smoking, especially if they are already a regular user, they will develop a tolerance to. Switching strains and mixing strains (grind up a bud of A and and bud of B, mix, then consume) can help.
High THC strains I like are White Widow, Colorado Cough (a wierd tall one to grow), "the" sour diesel cut, bubblegum. The Centennial Roughneck is looking promising in this category as well.
eating it is key to severe pain management, even more so than strain, in my opinion.
A gram of kief or oil cooked into a single serving edible will couch lock him and take a big bight out of the pain.
an easy way to do the same thing is to make iso or bho oil, and to fill gell caps with that oil to the desired level. start with a 1/3 full or less in an #OO GELETIN cap (veg will disolve, dont use). You can get these at health food stores. Taking to much can be quite uncomfortable. You can't overdose, but you can make yourself pretty wigged for many hours if you take to much, so ease it in by starting small. Wait 3 hours to see effects before taking more the first time. Some people are effected in 30 minutes, some take 3 hours on the same edible.
I take caps with hot tea to help facilitate the cap dissolving and the oil dispersing. I have also found it's good to eat the cap, and follow it with a snack which has some oil content. (peanut butter, french fries, a small piece of pizza) don't eat to much though as to make it hard for quick digestion.
please report back how it goes. It is very helpful to hear how others are helping those with intense pain.
smaller amounts of edibles can be managed such that he/she is not high and still get moderate pain management. They may want to escape with a hard stone, but they may also have a desire to not be couch locked and still have some good relief.

copobo is def. right as far as eating it.
If you do want a specific strain, TGA's Jack the Ripper is really strong and narcotic, closest thing to percoset I've tried.
The headband I got a sample of is kushy but heavier and stronger, good quality high....
But it is subjective, so I'd recommend trying out a strain before you grow it out expecting a certain effect.

ps you don't have to stay in the indicas for couchlock, that feeling comes more from a plant that is left to flower longer and alows the trichocomes to go from milky to fully amber..
