Bernie Sanders On Tax Cuts
Wow, it went all quiet in here. I can almost hear an echo echo echo... Where did everyone one go?!
I like this bit by Bernie Sanders (see below). I just hope we can kill this thing in the house. What are the merits of giving a tax break to millionaires while we are running these kinds of deficits? Those at the very top will gain $43,000 for every million they earn under this unfunded entitlement (tax cut). Considering that this class has benefited the most over the past 15 years, shouldn't they feel the most pain now that the chickens have come home to roost?

See: Bernie Sanders On Tax Cuts: GOP Wants To Grow National Debt, Then Slash Social Security
In my view, it is a moral outrage that at a time when this country has a $13.8 trillion national debt, a collapsing middle class and a growing gap between the very rich and everybody else that the Republicans would deny extended unemployment benefits to 2 million workers who are desperately struggling to pay their bills and maintain their dignity. It is also beyond comprehension that the Republicans would hold hostage the entire middle class of this country so that millionaires and billionaires would receive huge tax breaks. In my view, that is not what this country is about and it is not what the American people want to see. Our job is to save the disappearing middle class, not lower taxes for people who are already extraordinarily wealthy and increase the national debt that our children and grandchildren would have to pay.
The immediate political task in front of us is to rally the American people so that in the next several weeks we can find at least a few Republicans who will join us in saying no to increasing the deficit by giving tax breaks to the wealthy and no to holding the unemployed and the middle class hostage.
I believe that we have the American people on our side on this issue. My office, and I come from a small state, has received more than 600 calls today, 99 percent of them in opposition to this so-called compromise that the president negotiated with the Republicans.
I will do everything in my power to stand up for the American middle class and defeat this agreement.bigsby Reviewed by bigsby on . Bernie Sanders On Tax Cuts Wow, it went all quiet in here. Personally, I could take either arguement. It is not the gov't money its our money. starve the beast and all that. But, personally I don't see how tax cuts for the rich would really help the economy (it hasn't worked the last 9 years). Maybe we should try a trickle up mechanism for a while.
a bit off topic, but I like the President's idea of gutting the tax code all together. If he can pull that off I might vote for him in 2012.

Tax cuts for the rich do nothing but harm the economy--that's a fact. The huge tax cuts of the 1920s led to a disaster I'm sure we're all familiar with, and cuts under Reagan and Bush have been nothing but trouble either. Even for the middle classes, the higher their taxes, the higher their wages, if the money is being spent responsibily. In Denmark they're taxed an average of 52 per cent, but their wages are ridiculously high so it all more than evens out--plus they get free college education and health care. In the States this rule doesn't really hold, because most of the tax revenue goes toward masturbatory activities like bigger weapons and the War on Drugs--but regardless, tax cuts for the rich are purely disgusting, and the periods of great economic flourishing have always been those where the rich paid up high--such as the Eisenhower years.
IslandBorn, the issue is not Bernie Sanders, but tax cuts. It truly boggles my mind how working people can support the idea of a tiny wealthy elite being taxed LESS than they are!, but hats off to the propaganda system.

here is my idea. NO INCOME TAXES at all if you make under say $100K. no payroll deductions, no federal and state withholdings, no FICA and all the rest and most of all ... no 1040 forms to file, none of that bs. think of it as the ultimate trickle up mechanism that would put thousands into all of our pockets starting next payday.
Now thats a tax bill we could all get behind, hu? The economy gets stimulated so that tax revenues eventually go back up and in an intelligent way, that is good companies get revived and crappy ones go down in flames, instead of the less natural way of gov't picking out who to bail out. :twocents:[align=center]:s4:
bring \'em all home.
