Afghan
Indica
Sativa
Ruderalis

Scientifically (and according to the law) there is only one; Cannabis Sativa, but we all know that is a bunch of bull puckey.

Now, you can have any combo of the above, but will get many different phenotypes of each cross and usually one particular trait will be dominate above all from the "master strains" in each individual plant. (It is about time science takes into account the evolution of the species into multiple species.)
Hey 'Wonder, I need to correct you abt this.

According to binomial nomenclature, each individual has a two-part name; the first part is called GENUS (plural genera) and the second part is called a specfic epithet or SPECIES. This system is equivalent to surnames and first names in the naming of people.

Science recognizes there are three species of the genus cannabis. They are; sativa, indica and ruderalis. (Can't tell you why the law does not know this, but plant biologist's do.)

"Afghan" is known to be cannabis indica, btw.
