    Tested Positive for THC...

My husband just had a pre-employment drug screen and tested positive for THC. He has smoked before but not recently. We live in Michigan where it is legal to cultivate and use for medicinal purposes. We have a tenant who rents out our basement and grows and uses with a license. This seems to be the only explanation for the positive result, as we do come in contact with it on a regular basis.

The hiring company has revoked his offer of employment but has given him the opportunity to explain in writing the circumstances surrounding the positive result. The company is located in a state where marijuana is not legalized for the same use as in MI.

Has anyone heard of this before? To me, his story seems believable because I know it to be accurate, but I was wondering if anyone else has had to explain a similar situation and what the outcome was.

This would not be a plausible or acceptable explanation because drug tests look at THC metabolites and not THC itself. Therefore THC would have to be ingested and metabolized by the body in order for it to be detectable on a U/A.

Was your test result confirmed using the GC/MS test? You would know this because the GC/MS would give a quantitative value.

Has anyone heard of what before? Not sure what you are asking. I'll try to cover what I think you are asking.

If you are planning on using 2nd hand exposure leading to a positive result save your breath. That isn't going to fly, he tested positive because he had it in his system from smoking or ingesting it. Not because you have a grower down in your basement.

Even if your hubby had a Medical MJ Card doesn't mean an employer can't say sorry, we don't want drug users working for us. It wouldn't matter if the company was in Michigan or not.

I'd ask your hubby to be honest about his smoking history because people who don't smoke pot don't test positive for it unless there was a mix up at the lab. Good luck.
