    Some Unusual Control Devices

    Hey All,

First time poster here. I tried to search for this but couldn't find it.

I need two somewhat unusual devices for a setup.

The first is a timer or duty cycle regulator that can go on and off at arbitrary or 1 minute intervals an unlimited number of times. I want to put an ozone generator on a timer but I don't want it to run continuously; I want to be able to have it come on for a minute every 3 minutes or something.

The second control device I'd like is a temperature "kill switch." Basically, if the heat in the box rises above a certain point, I want to be able to shut everything off. I have found thermostats that come on ABOVE a certain point, but I want something that will shut lights, fans, etc. all off if the temperature gets too high. Bonus would be if this was a remote sensor, e.g. there was a sensor that could be mounted in a heat sensitive area.

If anyone knows the proper name for these devices and/or a place I can get them, I'd be much obliged.

    Thanks!

    Hello OrganicHobbiest,

Welcome to the boards. Not sure why you didn't get any answers, but I'll try to help.

A Sentinel MRT-1, will do both things that you want to accomplish.

It has a re-cycle timer built in that can go down to 1 sec, or any amount you want for "on" time and set anything you want for "off" time.

It also serves as a timer for your lights, and has a feature that allows you to set a temperture cut-off point should your lighting overheat.

Thanks for the info. I think you had a typo... it should be the MDT-1 (master digital timer). I'm amazed at how expensive it is; I could probably buy an old computer and some relays and have a true control system, but without getting too involved, it seems like this would work.

For the purposes of temperature control, could I use a heating thermostat that was ON below a certain temp (say, 90F). This would keep lights, fans, etc. running, but at or above 90F, the lights would shut off. Obv., depending on the location of the thermostat, 90F might not be a good cutoff point, but in theory I think this should work.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

Either a typo or brain fart.

Yes it is expensive I guess, but you get what you pay for. Grow cheap get cheap.

You even said you had the need for 2 unusual controls, I just pointed you one device that fulfills both of your needs. Plus I use these myself in a couple of grows, so I can vouch for thier quaility first hand.

As to temp contol, you would need thier UTC-1 (? doing this from memeroy) universal temerature control (?) sounds right. This can control fans etc, and has both day time and night time settings. Plus it will record the highest temp and lowest temp for both day and night. And it's cheaper then the other control.

"....but in theroy I think this would work." You sound like a engineer or have that type of backround.......hehe

Growing is where theroy and reality meet. They don't always work out the same.
    Good growing to ya.
