Are Digital Ballasts Worth it?
Starting at the exhaust out of the room and working backward.
There is a exhaust vent intalled in the wall which is blown through the sheetrock, venting to another room. Then some duct, then a vortex (pulling), then some duct, then the hood, then an open vent on the side of the hood which is just sucking air. "WHEN" it gets a bit smelly I plan on hooking up a few ft of duct and a 23x6 Carbon filter (of sorts).
My intake is totally passive- has it another vent (outside) and duct work.
You are quite possibly correct that I can not install a filter on the other side of my light. Could you please explain why? Thanks for the helppipefitter Reviewed by pipefitter on . Are Digital Ballasts Worth it? I am looking for a 1000 watt. There are a few brands I am looking at, Lumitech, Extrasun and Phantom HydroFarm. Not really sure if they are worth double price tag. I am leaning towards yes, however, I am uncertain of which is the best. Why? I read what the websites say, but, nothing is better than experience. thx. Most carbon filters work best at a maximum of 190 cfm. It would choke your flow of air into your hood thus raising your temp.. Lower your lamp life and risk a fire. You need to not pull the room air through the hood, but pull air from outside the room into the hood and exhaust it.Hood never gets hot if vented for the whole flowering duration. Metal hold heat and if givien constant airflow you can lay your hand on top of the hood. While no airflow, you will feel the heat.

Makes sense. Heres the thing though. By pulling air from within the room, through the hood, it IS keeping my hood super cool but, most importantly... by pulling air from in the room it is sucking cold air into the room like crazy through the passive vent (outdoor cold weather). It's like a fan in self. It is amazing how the passive blows cold fresh air into the room when the vortex is on.
I have not tried to hook that filter up but I'm guessing you are correct. It will choke it somewhat. I'll have to see what happens to the temp.
Where would you put the filter?
I know we have got a bit side tracked = ) But I do really appriciate the advice.Current Grow: Blueberry x Northern Lights:thumbsup:

I would just put it in a corner,at plant level. You can still keep your hood super cool by adding that duct to the hood and another passive vent hole. Problems solved..
