Sounds like fun!...I germinate old seeds & new seeds the same way:
I soak the seeds 12-24 hours in a shot glass of water; with a drop or two of hydrogen peroxide, added. Then I put them 1/4 inch deep, in loose soil. I maintain 78 degees. I keep the soil moist on top, using a spray bottle.

My oldest seeds are about 4 years old. I don't keep them in the cold. I think bone dry is more important.

Good Luck...I think your old friend would be proud...

(I could have missed some threads, though.) I had a friend pass away recently who had kept seeds from the best weeds they had smoked starting in the mid '80s - early 2000's. They kept them frozen. They didn't note the strains or anything more than, "kicked ass" - "mellow" - "couch potato locked" - "fucking unbelievable high" etc. so I have no way of knowing what percentage of Rating: 5
