Yes, naming is fun, a few of mine are
Jaze
White Jaze
Washougal Widow
I don't bother naming until I find a keeper, just use a lettering system so I can track the moms and pops.

If you do an internet search on "frozen seed bank" you will find all kinds of resources, including the most famous: the Svalbard Vault. The bottom line is that seeds stored at zero degrees fahrenheit will remain viable for at least 50 years. Further lowering the tempertature, lowering the oxygen content and lowering the humidity will all add more decades to how long seeds can be maintained.
The sources also say that seeds stored in a common refrigerator at 35-40 degrees fahrenheit will remain viable for at least 20 years, so I'd have to say you are in luck. Give it a whirl!

I am hoping to have some long forgotten strain that can be produced into something even more special with all the genetics available that were not available in the 80's/90's/00's ... with the help of the members here I know there could be something really unbelievable created. You gotta love nature!

I believe the best way to store seeds is in the fridge. I wrap them in a paper towel and place into a jar full of rice (uncooked). The rice will absorb any water that might condense inside the jar, as well as the paper towels. Then I wrap the jar in foil to keep it dark and more air tight. I change out the rice once a year.
They will keep for 10+ years this way, the problem with the freezer is most have a defrost function which creates condensation. I think if they were in freezer with no defrost it would be better.
I would like to hear what your germination success rate is with these seeds, good luck and sorry about your loss.
I have several different high grade strains stored long term and have gotten 100% germ rate with 6 year old seeds stored in the way I have described.

if your freezer is like most it defrosts which means the temp constantly fluctuates between below freezing mark and above freezing mark. tiny water molecules inside the seed freeze and unfreeze, expanding and contracting possibly damaging the seed. just my theory.
