I find that this works best when you wrap the cups in cling film to build up the humidity within the cups. Seeds like warmth and humidity. Once the seeds break ground I remove the cling film.
If I want to check on my seedlings I'l squeeze the tops of the cups, this causes the soil to break apart or split and I usually see if a root is forming or not.
