Switching veg light cycles. Need advise!

A buddy of mine just gave me his plants. long story short cops were involved. Yes he is an mmj patient and it was a legal grow. His neighbors called about a glowing light in his garage that was shining into their bedroom. Cops told his wife about all the people that are robbed and killed all the time over mmj grows. She freaked doesnt want them now.

My question he was running 24/0 veg I am running 18/6. HPS 1000w.

Can i switch his plants to 18/6 without issues?

Any advise would be great.
