Help with seed selection (n00b)

I am an extreme n00b. I will be doing my first grow in January. Will be doing it indoors in a closet in a rubbermaid growbox. I have a stupid question about seeds. I will probably just be doing one plant for my first grow just to have some personal product and work out all the kinks. So if I am only doing one plant, how many seeds do I need? I know that sounds silly, but do I just need one seed for one plant? Or put a few in there?

Also, how safe and secure is it ordering seeds online and having them shipping to my house? Thanks for any advice.

Well, one seed has the potential to make one plant, but remember there is a 50% chance that the plant will be male. Since you'll want to smoke the females, you might want to germinate twice as many seeds as you want plants. You can always buy a ten pack of seeds, germinate some now, and save some for later.

Thanks so much. That was my next question. So I want females to harvest, right? If I start growing one and it's a male, what do I do with it?

my thoughts would be chop it down if its a male plant and you can buy feminised seeds wich will make your sucsess rate more achivable but not 100% garenteed

males go into the trash no males, males bad, unless your making hemp products
