are you using big bloom along with the grow big? The big bloom is mainly gauno's and have a tendancy to change the color of the roots to a light brown color.

Is there light getting into the bucket?. Make sure thats the buckete are completly blacked out or brown algae will start to grow. Seal the buckets of light, and the algae cannot live.

Start reading up on cyano-bacteria and get some physan20 for clean up.
algea needs light and at first that is what is looks like but no green color. The more it looks like snot kind of light brown almost no color the more it sounds like cyano-bacteria.

It will choke off the roots and cause root rot. We cleaned up enough to barely save a harvest. Once it starts you will need the physan20, it's the only thing that will clean it out of your system. Chlorine and peroxide willnot take it out completely. The stuff makes a bio-film that embeds into plastic quite easily.

Check your lid. My guess is that you have pin hole light leaks. Usually they are found around the hole cut for the net cup. The water is foamy on top, the inside of the bucket and any hoses are slimy feeling and the roots have a slick feeling not to mention brown color. Odd's are your not using anything exotic in the water to change the root color so it' good old fashion root rot. Change the water, hose off the roots, use tap water to clean out the inside, the chlorine will help, and finally get a new lid or resolve the light leaks. Verify your air pump is sufficient for your reservoir, I'm guessing 60 GPH per 5 gallon bucket.
