You'll need to define "normal lamp" to get any useful response.
We will assume that we know what kine plant. :-}

If you are referring to incandescent light bulbs, no.
All you'll get is stretch and die.
CFLs can do, but you will need either, 1 whopping big, or several small.

How many, whatsize?
Ah dunno, I use LEDs.

But restate your question and someone will be right along with an answer.

Or, you could just read until your eyes bleed.

Right on Weezard, I was wondering about Lights as well. I know no can with Halogen's.
But I seen some halide and HPS lights at Lowe's and was wondering if could just screw those into a regular lamp.

Probably not!
Both of those kine need ballasts.

Vapor arc lights are in the "negative resistance" family.
They must have an outside means of limiting the current.
The "Yard lights" at Lowe's will come with a ballast, but usually have flying leads.
So, at the least, you would need wire nuts and a clue, yah?

Wish I had betta news for ya, but, spit no gonna git.
Already tried it. <blush>
Bought a 250W HPS outdoor flood.
Duct taped the lightsensor, and hooked it to a timer.
It was hot, n ugly.
When my starts stretched until I bought them a CFL,
I went lookin' for better light.

What's yer light budget?
And what do you pay for electricity there?

I been jus' fine.
Always on-line.
When I not on-line
I hawaii kine.

Can't complain, brah.

Well, Electricity, I have no idea, I just started doing this all on accident,lol I got a clone and had a light, next thing I know, Im growing,lol So I am looking to get a grow tent and something for the smell.I'm so lazy man, I been a medical patient for over 3 years and now that I have the chance to grow I'm like What the hell do I do? lol Right now I got one small plant sitting under a 250 grow light, It's one of these:
Feliz 250W Blue CFL Plant Growth Light Bulb - 6500K - Light Bulb Surplus

I went and got a 7 gallon smart pot and some soil and it's doing pretty good, These things grow pretty fast.I know I need more lights and I am going as cheap as I can, but I am looking for something simple and not too complicated.

I'd just get another 250W. cfl but with a lower color temp.
Say, 2700K.
At 12000 lumens it should be more than enough for one plant.
Inexpensive to run too.
What's not to like?
Now, an odor sock/fan, and duct tape together a box out of reflectix an' you're good to grow. :thumbsup:
