Looking for an mmj doctor
Well, the people have spoken, so I am looking for an mmj doctor. Anywhere from Oakland to Sac along the I-80 corridor, or along 680. I have complete medical records and walk-in is preferred over "make an appt". I can and have looked this up on the interwebs, but I'm looking for references...what was your personal experience with their attitude, availability, price, etc. TIA!

Looking for an mmj doctor
Thanks Groundup...I appreciate the link.
I live in rural Solano County, so searched their website for information on mmj, and found this webpage. The info there leaves me with a few questions for California mmj patients.
1. Do I really have to apply to the county for an mmj card, as stated on the Solano Co website? I thought it was strictly between me and my doctor.
2. Once a doctor recommends you can the County say no?
3. Does it cost $200 to apply? Or can I waive being registered with my county?
Thanks!

To be honest you should go for the longest license at the lowest price. There is a 420meds or something like that in San Jose that charges $70 for a 1 year license. They have 24/7 verification so any collective can call in to verify a license any time. They will also issue a card similar to Medicann for a few dollars more. You can go to Medicann and pay $100 for the same thing. Your license will be equally legitimate either way. Also if there is a Hemp Con in your area check that out. At the San Jose Hemp Con you could get a 1 year license for $50. Then you could walk around and get free samples of weed and medibles that more that made up for the $20 entry fee. I got about 1/4 oz of weed a gram of hash and several medibles some of which I ate and lost track of just for sighning up at various collectives.
The only other place I would suggest is Dr. Milan Hopkins in Upper Lake, CA. He charges $250 for a 6 month license but people from all over the place flock to his clinic because the verbage on the license says the holder is entitled to grow 99 plants and posess up to 19 lbs for personal use. The lines are long there but people go way out of their way and pay a much higher price to get that verbage on a license. The price is a little less if you make an appointment ahead of time.

Thanks rudy2010! I read Dr Hopkins' website faq, and am still puzzled about the 99 plant/19 lb limit. It even says on his website that "the California Supreme Court has ruled that neither County Governments, nor the State legislature, has the authority to specify legal limits on cannabis cultivation or possession by valid cannabis patients".
So what is it...99 plants or no limits?
Just curious, but don't want to spend money for "protection" I don't really need.
Thanks!

I called Medicinal Revolutions in Vallejo (the only dispensary I could find on the web in Solano County), and they referred me to Dr Douglas E. Smith in Vallejo. Anybody know him?
Oh, and Groundup...I would just point out that the State has all your mmj data anyway (via the forms the doctor has to submit), so they "have all the juice" on mmj patients anyway.

There's a difference with some one that has 6 plants than 99, 99 means distribution in the feds eyes.Trust me!

Looking for an mmj doctor
Hi- I got my MMJ recommendation today & I wish I would have read this forum first! All I did was call the closest 2 offices (that I found on the NORML site) and they both said $150, so I just went with the closer one. I would have gone farther had I known you can get the same for only $70- grrr!
I also called the county mmj office (that was listed on the State's website) & they told me that I needed a written doctor's recommendation to get a card and the fee is like $141 (cheaper if you have MediCal). I do not have insurance or a regular doctor so it seemed to me that I only needed to just go straight to a doc that would give me the card anyways.
I am still a little confused myself - I didn't get a "card" today, but I got the recommendation papers that has my drivers license photocopied with it & they told me to keep that on me and also put a copy with plants if I choose to grow my own. She told me that the card you get from the county has the actual State seal on it and that law enforcement will not hassle you at all if you have the state card. - She also said that there is nothing written in the laws that require and actual "card".
So what I gather from all this information is that with the physician approval papers you are pretty much OK, but you better also get the State approved card through your county health program just to be sure you will never get arrested.
Can anyone tell me for sure if that sounds right? If so, now I wish I would have gotten the $70 recommendation and the $141 county card because now I can't afford the county card too!
Anyways, I used OptiMed in Stockton, and they have offices all over. I found the physician to be friendly and supportive & informative and he also advised me on other homeopathic meds for my migraines and insomnia (coenzyme q10 & melatonin), which I will also try.
I hope this all makes sense! Good luck to you!
