    Need Advice Please

    O.k. here's the deal.

My COBRA ran out. I have no medical insurance of any kind. I have medication that I have to take. It's 87.00 per month. Once again, my unemployment was cut off and it could be 6-8 weeks before it's reinstated, if at all.

I have been placing applications and resumes (around 5-7) per week. I've even applied at convenience stores. ANYTHING. I'm really desperate at this point.

    Here's the question:

Does anyone know of any assistance program in New Mexico that can help me with my medication costs? This is my heart medication. I have to have it. I tried applying for New Mexico state health insurance but there's a waiting list and no one knows when they will be taking applications again.

Im really really desperate folks. Seriously desperate. Help?

Have you tried applying for Medicaid? You can apply at your local Income support office, you can apply for food stamps and what not there as well. My kids have the Medicaid and all of their expenses even prescriptions are covered. I personally was very lucky i got the state coverage insurance before they had a wait list, my husband has been on the wait list for over a year. Those are all the places that i know of.

Here is a website to Income Support NMHSD - Income Support Division
you should be able to download the applications and mail them in also, thats what i do.

Thank you so much mama. You are an angel among angels. I'm going to make you my honorary sister-goddess.

I applied for disability but with my unemployment insurance (ironically) I make too much money.

AAAWWWW TY, I applied for disability and they just denied me all together mainly because i dont have a diagnosis yet. You really have to jump through a bunch of hoops before some people will help. I wish you the best of luck i am also one of the 99ers so i feel your pain with the unemployment issue.

I dropped you an email sam.
Sorry about the situation you are in buddy, I think a lot of your fellow MJ patients have had similar problems due to health. Nobody should have to suffer like that, wondering how they are going to afford meds for their health.
I couldn't afford my meds for about a year, my prescriptions are close to 700.00$ a month. Luckily I have insurance at the moment.
Thats one thing I really liked about hawaii, any job you work over 20 hours a week, its state law the company has to provide you with health insurance.

Sam, most communities also have some kind of safety net for people with no insurance and not enough money. Here in Las Cruces, it's St Luke's Health Clinic, where you have to wait all day for your turn, but they can give you free medicine.

I know how hard it is to feel like you're begging, but these service organizations are actually there to provide you with the help you need. You just have to find them.

    Good luck!

their is a state wide insurance they have co pays and things like this but if you are unemployed and in the berna county then there sin o copay and no fees basically free health care. most of us have small copays and meds are only available through UNM and are supposed to be not covered I am not sure about this. here is the number but be advised they are very busy and sometimes 3 month wait is not uncommon. I had surgery and it took 6 months to get a come back to get things looked at. but it is the NM medical, and all ER visits are covered as well, and it is covered all over the nation as afar as ER.

tell them you are trying to get on a program and they will give you a number or schedule a appointment where they want tax papers and all of this type of thing.

health insurance is a scam in this country theri is no need to pay for it if you already pay your taxes. in Canada it is much differant, and last I herd US is supposed to be #1 for health, haha yeah right

Unfortunately I'm up in the four corners area. San Juan County. But I'll call that number tomorrow to see if they can help or know someone that can.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice.
